We Are All Contributing To Our Own Demise
We are all caught up in the quicksand of consumerism, and it is pulling us under faster than we realize.
There is a site on the Internet called, “THE STORY OF STUFF.” It is a video that talks about our economical crises. They are showing it in schools, and every adult should view it. We have become a world of produce, profit, produce and profit. This has led us on a merry-go-round of waste, waste, waste. In that process of waste, we are destroying natural resources at an alarming rate. In this process we are producing toxics in the air, soil, and water. We are latterly slowly killing ourselves.
Our government is paid by us, to take care of us in these things. They are to provide us safe measures for our health, and our welbeing. Yet instead, our government spends 51% of our tax dollars working with big companies that are trashing our planet. One third of all natural resources have been used up. 40% of all water ways are undrinkable. In this country alone we have only 4% of natural forests left. 75% of our fish are gone. World wide we cut down 2000 trees a minute. 80% of all forests are gone.
In this country we are only 5% of the population of the world, yet we use 40% of all products that end up being wasted. Synthetic chemicals interact with nature, causing a chain reaction of pollutants, and toxins, that are all slowly killing us. It is seen in the food chain, getting into our bodies in what we eat. It is even found in mothers milk. No one is safe from it. We put toxic poisons into everything we make. Flame retardants are an example: Children sleep in pajamas full of toxic BFR, and even our pillows are protected from catching fire , by putting these deadly chemicals in them. Are we more protected by preventing fire to our pillows and night clothes, then we are by the toxins put in them??
The more we seem to find ways to make things better, the more we dig the hole to our demise. The real purpose behind all these new items to protect us is the bottom line- profits, for those who sell them. We are like blind mice scattering all over the place, not knowing where we are going. We put all our trust in all the rules, regulations and laws of educated experts who decide what is best for all of us. These experts work for the greedy corporations that run the world. so where is their loyalty to the people?

Powerful site. I agree with you pretty well. We need to fix the problem not the symptoms (cancer).
For me the true root lies in the fact that there are simply too many people, our population is far exceding our planets ability to deal with us all, and all our waste, we are raping our home and not controlling our population growth and yet we control population growth of nearly every other species.

I dont think money is the root of all evil. How some people act because they have money IS the problem.
Good article.
