We Aussies Eat Weird Stuff

About the weird things Australians eat.

Its true! The true Aussie food back in the 1800’s used to be scones. Now they’re a nice, juicy steak! Its nice knowing how Australia has changed isn’t it?

When the First Fleet first arrived, the convict’s main food was berries and an extremely small amount of meat and some bread. The upper class ate what we today would eat but prepared in largely different ways.

During the 1820’s the food was widely influenced by English speaking migrants that came from Scotland, England, Britain and Wales.

But the foods we know today originated from the 1850’s when the Gold Rush started. At that time,  lots of non-English speaking migrants came to Australia looking for gold. They brought with them their food and styles of eating that food.

Towards the end of World War II, refugees from across the world sought shelter in Australia. These formed the variety of the food we eat. Nowadays when you go into a supermarket, foodstuff’s from all across the world can be found there. There are also many cultural specialty stores such as Chinese groceries which cater for their speficic race they are targetting.

Well, I hope this has helped you in some way. Hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I have had typing this up.
