What Does the Media Think of Beauty?

How I think the media in newspaper or advertisements degrade women’s beauty.

This ad is based on a non-profitable healthcare program in the United States named UPMC; it is ranked as one of America’s top hospitals. The ad can also be a form a propaganda, it is emphasizing that all women want smooth skin, they’re basically convincing everyone women to believe that everyone needs smooth skin to be attractive. Even though it is non-profitable it is still expensive, but they are convincing every into thinking that every penny is worth it for this type of healthcare. The 7 seven words in the article is very powerful, “I wish I had smoother skin.” The ad is trying to make everyone think that nobody is born with smooth skin. The ad makes the reader have a self-conscience that they are left our or alone if they do not have smooth skin, which is a quality of beauty. Instead the author is assuming that everyone who reads the article has rough skin and he compares people skin to the texture of pineapple.

I don’t really like how this ad is sending the message of lower ones self-esteem in order to promote their services. They should talk about what kind of services they offered, but they shouldn’t mention, “I wish I had smooth skin” because it sounds as if the ad is implying that everyone needs to get a pedicure from this hospital. I think they should have replaced the quote with “Give UPMC a chance. Get a pedicure.”

I also didn’t like how they compared the reader’s skin to a rough pineapple, I think they should have gave more information about their program and the facilities in the hospital. Saying that someone has rough skin doesn’t really promote their services; in fact, it only convinces people to take precaution about their skin. Nobody would know what UPMC is, just by reading the poster. Research is required to fully understand this ad. The style of ads and commercials are revolutionizing in our modern day society. Advertisements about beauty are always using a person’s mental conscience to convince everyone into believing one perspective in beauty. Advertisements are always criticizing beauty, but they no longer admiring beauty.
