Criticism is analyzing the merits and demerits of either an animate or an inanimate thing or an object from various points of view of a person who embark upon the task of criticism. But in a narrow and crooked sense criticism is meant to highlight the demerits of a person or thing.

Generally, people do not like criticism, because, they do not want to be in the low esteem of others, nor do they want to get themselves exposed to unknown persons.

But, criticism is an art. It may be direct or indirect.

The direct methods, we used to criticize others are 1) by making signs or gesticulations, 2)by speech, 3)by writing and 4) by drawing picture messages on a particular person or episode.

1) By making signs or gesticulations:

When tempers rise and run high, you criticize a person through signs or gesticulations, in the course of a heated argument or quarrel;it invariably provokes reactions, resulting in a tiff, violence, sometimes leading to ugly scenery; creating chain reactions like preferring complaints in the police stations and leading to legal proceedings etc.

2)By Speech:

Speech is another powerful weapon used to criticize a person or a subject matter. In a democracy, your right to speech is guaranteed by statues and in countries like US or India your right to speech is fundamental and inviolable.

In politics, while the ruling party invariably invokes its right to speech, to highlight their policies and programmes, it is the duty of the opposition parties to criticize the policies and programmes of the government, always highlighting the negative aspects. In the process, they should behave in a responsible manner.

Good post. One might be criticized for making a mistake but it is more to his credit if that each time he makes a mistake it is a new one.

I always believe that when I take liberty to criticize others, then I should be prepared for criticism by others.

Last I noticed, dead people frequently get a lot of criticism–and cant defend themselves or repair damages. So even to do nothing has impact and may be open to criticism. Well written.

Like my grandmother used to say: “worry when no one says anything about you, that means you might as well be invisible.”
