Where is Falun?
To be honest, how many of us have heard of this place? Yeah, I can hear you say “me” but maybe it’s not the Falun you think. Here, I’m referring to Falun in the Dalarna county in Sweden not the one in China, ok now, have you heard of this place or have you been there? If yes, schedule another visit, if no, you don’t know what you’re missing. The city is where the head of government of Dalarna is situated with a population of about 35,000 people. Good whether in the summer, and a very nice place to be during the winter, especially for the lovers of winter games.

Here’s a breakdown of how Falun is:
1, Falun – bursting with things to see, nature, culture, sport and activities
The UNESCO World Heritage Site comprising the mine, the town and mining settlement; the fantastic home of Carl Larsson; the cottage where Carl von Linné ( you remember him) was married; the nationally famous Lugnet sports and recreational facility; the wide range of activities available on Lake Runn; popular events through the year – and much, much more! It’s impossible to get bored in Falun – whatever the season. Here you can find out what’s on and get parts of your stay booked up now. After all, the more you can organise in advance, the more time you’ll have to enjoy yourself when you’re in Falun.
2, Shop till you drop in ‘Dalarna´s downtown’
With its pleasant mix of old and new, cosy town life and inspirational shopping with distinctive boutiques, big chain stores and arcades, it’s easy to see why Falun is known as ‘Dalarna’s downtown’. In other words, there is every opportunity to come home with some great finds. If you are here at the end of the summer then don’t miss the Farmers’ Market, with locally grown vegetables and homemade delicacies. Dalarna’s designer street in Slaggatan is another hot tip.
3, Find your own favourites among Falun´s cafés and restaurants
In Falun you can find everything from convenient fast-food outlets, cafés and pizzerias to family-friendly everyday restaurants and charming gourmet restaurants. And don’t miss out on day trips to neighbouring areas such as Sundborn, Staberg and Bjursås, where there are many cosy favourite spots where you can enjoy good food in different settings. So leave the picnic basket at home, and make a visit to the local restaurant or café part of the holiday experience.
4, TRAVEL TO FALUN BY CAR, COACH, BUS OR PLANE
Wherever you’re coming from and however you choose to travel, getting to Falun is easy. The train and bus station is centrally located within walking distance of the town centre (approx. 200 m), the mine (approx. 500 m) and Lugnet (1 km). If you are flying, it will take you about 20 minutes by car from Dala Airport. Falun is also the ideal base from which to enjoy day trips to discover the rest of Dalarna. You will find more information, maps and route descriptions at the tourist office.
