Who’s Superior Again?
Many people think they are superior to others just because of what they have, what they have been through, or just what they think they deserve. Why?
It’s amazing to me how people can feel so superior to one another. No matter who tells them that we are all the same, everything just goes round and round. A long time ago I was watching The Tyra Banks Show, I rarely watch it unless it’s one o’clock in the morning and I’ve already seen most of what’s on and can’t get interested in anything else. (Ha! Excuses, excuses, right?) Well, on this episode it was a scenario or “town” they had set up with a Gay Lesbian Transgendered Bisexual (GLTB) and a Drag Queen. The point of this was that Tyra had heard that even within their own “communities” (communities in quotes because there aren’t towns and cities, contrary to joking believe, where there are 100% GLTB people), there are prejudice, stereotypes and hate. Well apparently, bisexuals are believed to be really gay or lesbian, they are just afraid to admit it. Lesbians are supposed to be dykes, apparently there are many different stereotypes of gay men, transgendered people are basically freaks (not said in that manner though) and drag queens apparently want to be women but won’t go through the procedure or something like that. There were more but it’s been a while since I actually watched that episode so I don’t remember a lot of what went on. But apparently this surprised her because these people are already judged, stereotyped and hated by people who are straight and don’t want or care to understand them; so why would they bring that on to each other?
Who doesn’t love Trya?? (Just kidding…Kind of) Well on the next show I watched, the “town” was made up of women who worked in all forms of the sex industry: illegal prostitute, legal prostitute, web cam girl, porn star, stripper, and a center fold (I don’t know what they are called). Well apparently even though they all work in the sex industry some of them think they are better than the others for some reason or another. Which to most outsiders, its like “What’s the difference? You’re all using your body to make money.” “Yeah ok, so not all of you actually sleep with anyone but still your part of the building blocks that sell sex.” I’ve been in that ring and I still don’t think anyone is better than the other. I mean, hey if it’s making me good amount money, I’ll be a “home wrecker” or some perverted eye candy. (And with that, I begin my judgment…I wonder what the results will be. Just kidding, I don’t want to know what people think of me because it’s not liked I’d change my mind just for you.)

I wonder why this is in the Gay and Lesbian section of the socyberty section. Well I apologize to any of you who expected to read an article primarily about gays and lesbians and thank you to those who read the whole article.

Well said, Maam! I thoroughly enjoy your down-to-earth, folksy style of writing. It sounds like your head is screwed on pretty straight, and if something ever really, really bothers you – well, it’s probably going to be time to sit up and take notice.

Your heart certainly is in the right place. You are correct that almost everyone thinks they are better than someone. We should know better. If we didn’t have that imperfection we would not have war and we could all live happily.

Life has a way of making people with their noses in the air stub their toes on rocks they didn’t see. good article, and so very (sadly) true.

I can’t stand it when people think they are better than others. By what measure – what makes them fit to make that judgement?
Good article and thought provoking.
