Why Political Correctness Was Destined to Fail

The Politically Correct Movement swept across North America and Europe only to create more tensions and repression of hatred. Was it incorrect to be correct?

Why Political Correctness Was Destined to Fail

Rules like “Don’t say that!” and “Don’t do that!”, create superstitions instead of understanding. The world does not need any more superstitions. The world needs more understanding. Treating people like children that can not be trusted to choose their own words, or actions, based on their own beliefs, or intentions, creates resentment. In the Politically Correct or P.C. Movement, a few people set themselves up as the moral, or ethical, compass for the entire planet. Suddenly, many confused people found out they could no longer do this, or say that. Some of these new rules made sense and some of them made no sense at all. As a result even the P.C. rules that made sense have become the butt of jokes. A gravely concerning backlash has resulted from Political Correctness and carelessness of the rules it demanded to the point of giving fuel to hate groups. If this not was not bad enough, some in the P. C. Movement also attempted to control one of our most intimate areas of life, our romantic lives.

Hypocrisy and Stupidity

The failure to change the term “Redneck” into “European American whose ancestors were exploited in one or more forms of servitude and continue to be exploited by industrial, educational, and social systems” was perhaps the biggest downfall of the P.C. Word Police. However if they had done this, other P.C. Word Police would not have been able to say “Shut up! Shut up! You’re just a stupid Redneck!” when a debate stopped going their way. This failure to understand, research, or admit to the slavery origins of the term “Redneck” by most of those promoting Politically Correctness voided the entire movement of credibility. Don’t Rednecks like being called Rednecks? That’s not the point. Credibility is gained by consistency and that is the point. I have witnessed at least five thousand seven hundred thirty eight times P.C. Word Police call people “Rednecks”.

What I find even more ridiculous and offensive is when P.C. Word Police, who happen to be Caucasian have to nerve make the correction, “You mean African-American” , when a Black person uses the term “Black”. I have personally seen this happen more than fifty times in my life. In The 1970’s, Black was beautiful and now Black people cannot say the word because it might offend a White Upper Middle Class College Student? Give me break, please! I might take P.C. Word Police seriously if they attempted to make people use the term “Human” instead of all these ridiculous distinctions that can be and have been transformed into derogatory terms instead of the polite terms they were intended to be.
The Intentions of Words are Subjective.

I hear ya dude!. I grew up when this was all the rage, and well, I never really adopted it. It was just in most instances too stupid. Still gets me in trouble today though – not being PC :-)

Political Correctness becomes unnecessary if we simply embrace our humanity! Good article.

Political correctness, in my opinion is a way for the masses suppress personal views and characters. Let’s all think alike, like sheep being led to the slaughter.
    Great article.

Your thoughtful and insightful treatise here brought to mind a book I really enjoyed reading called “The Redneck Manifesto”, which I would go so far as to declare required reading on this subject. Well done, Mark!

Great Article Mark. I have been an opponent of Political correctness for as long as I can recall. If people aren’t saying what they actually feel then old attitudes are buried not corrected. I would rather be honestly hated than politely ignored I know not everyone shares my view but I don’t care.

Political correctness has led to the ridiculous state of this country where many people actually believe racial profiling is a bad thing. There are some instances where it is extremely useful. Like searching for a middle eastern terrorist you would probably have more luck if you ignored 90 year old Chinese ladies and concentrated on middle eastern men. I don’t think cops should pull over every minority driving but sometimes there are good indicators that a car may contain trouble. I my self have been pulled over precisely because I was white and out of place in a neighborhood. the cop told me I didn’t belong there and after I answered his questions and let him look through my car for drugs he let me go. Were my rights violated? probably, but my guess would be most white guys in that neighborhood at 5 am would probably be up to something bad.

    Correct Mark and well said.
    Honesty–the only way.
Mind you it has to be wrapped in a big fat lie to be noticed.

    Great article, Mark.
The lie of political correctness is that we’re being told that what we SHOULD think is more important than what we DO think.

PC comes and PC goes; there is an ebb and flow that only rarely gives us an even keel.
