Women’s Liberation Did Not Work Very Well

As we soar solidly into 2010, I have noticed the Women are not gaining much in the big scheme of things.

We had high hopes and dreams in the 60s and 70s while bra burning and working toward equal rights.  In 2008 women earned 23.8% less then men, while there were more women working.  Why are the women’s wage remaining so low.  We have gained sporting events in grammar, middle and high schools.  There are actually women’s college sporting events on television.  There are very few professional events compared to men’s events however.  We have gained a few entries in women’s golf, ice skating, and now Nascar has a woman driver.

It seems a lot of work and struggle for not much gain.  I am wondering what we are missing.  Maybe we need sporting events for the things where we truly excel.  We could have a shopping event for the most purchases per minute, most laundry folded per household, most stories read per child, the possibilities are endless.  Maybe the problems are that the things we do are not valued.  I believe the majority of paychecks are facilitated by mostly women.  Surely this is valued.  I know I appreciate my paycheck.

So could it be that the reason we are paid less and appreciated less for the things we do, is we allow the behavior?  I know when I go to see a doctor, usually male, I spend 70% of my time with the nurses or associates in the office.  I have found if I am lucky enough to see a female doctor, she usually takes more time inquiring to the specifics of my aliments.

I think it is time women are paid for the important jobs they do in our society, nurses, bookkeepers, associates, clerks, sales associates, etc.  All of these roles are important to our society, we should be compensated for the value of this work.
