World’s Most Strange Addictions: Could You be Suffering From One?

Strange addictions that are appearing in society.

There are many types of addictions in this world and the first thing that usually comes to mind these days are drugs. There are more kind’s additions than drugs and some just as dangerous. Are you suffering from some of these strange addictions? A lot of people are and don’t even realize it.

Tanorexia

Tanorexia is an addiction to tanning. It is name Tanorexia due to the similarities of drug addiction and a body image disorder like anorexia. It is thought that the dependency may have biological underpinnings somewhat like other addictions. This is similar to runners high but it is so new that treatments for this disorder are still being studied.

Crackberry

You may have guessed what this addiction is as it has got to do with the Blackberry. This addiction is when the user is constantly checking their phone to see if there are any messages. Professionals think that this addiction causes a rush for the user and puts them on an ego trip as they feel important. The only remedy for this is for the pattern to be interrupted.

Plastic Surgery Addiction

This is a very sad addiction brings with it some very traumatic consequences. This addiction happens to those that are never satisfied with the way they look and keep going back for surgery after surgery.   Taking into account that many of these procedures can go wrong, some people end up totally disfigured. It is called Body Dysmorphic Disorder. The cause of this disorder is not known but is thought to be a complex combination of biological, psychological and environmental factors.

Pagophagia

Pagophagia is an addiction to chewing ice. They have to chew ice constantly. It is thought this is due to low iron in the blood. This can be treated with vitamin B and vitamin C. this addiction is not really a serious one but can cause a bit of discomfort for the person that has the problem.

Funeral Addiction

This sounds really weird but there are people that are addicted to funerals. This addiction is so rare that it doesn’t even have a name. A Brazilian man has attended every funeral in his town and he is 42 years old. It seems his father’s death had a very lasting impression on him and he has attended every funeral since then. He even makes a point of calling the funeral homes, hospitals and listens to the radio looking for funerals to attend. The town don’t want his addiction fixed they are so use to seeing him at funerals.

Teeth Whitening Addiction

This is a new addiction when people constantly bleach their teeth. This is easy and effective but people can really get hooked on it. however there are side effects from this namely tooth sensitivity and gum irritation. There is approximately $1.4 million spent on tooth whitening products and procedures in one year in the United States alone.

Some of these addictions may seem harmless but can lead to some very troubleing repercussions. These are examples of when humans do anything to the extreme.

Very interesting article. There’s another one you could have added: Internet addiction. Some people spend hours a day online, and they don’t like to be away from their computer for any length of time. I’ve never been addicted to anything in my life, but a few years ago I got to the point where I was staying up half the night to play an online role playing game. It was affecting my life, and it took a lot of work to “detox” myself.
Now I’m just addicted to Triond!
    Great article.

Any special name for my addiction?

Fascinating collection. I would like to be able to afford to get addicted to cosmetic surgery. That’s an expensive habit! I am definitely addicted to Triond – the only cost is to my family: they want their turns on the computer. But they are young – they should be outside getting fresh air, or inside doing their chores and their homework, not wasting their lives in front of a computer screen.

Good article… Those plastic surgery pics could inspire nightmares! I used to go to the tanner to cheer up in winter, but I gave that up for fear of skin cancer :)

I cannot imagine what posesses the woman who has had so many surgeries to look like a cat and I can’t imagine a doctor who would do that. I was once addicted to eating ice and I think I might be addicted to Triond. I am on here every day.

Very interesting article. It is very easy to see why someone would get addicted to tanning: not only do people want to look good but if they are using sunbeds or sunbathing then there is the feel good buzz that you get from being exposed to UV light/ sunshine.

Funeral addiction is very real. I have a friend so addicted to funerals that we actually call him “The Funeral”..He always dresses in “funeral-chic” just in case he happens upon a funeral. Addiction is scary, and The Funeral knows all about it. May God Bless Him. Allelulia Amen.
