Yes, Good Samaritans Still Exist!

Have you met any Good Samaritans lately? I was on the receiving end of a good deed today.

I recently submitted an article called “How Honest are You?” I asked the question, “Would you return a wallet that you found?” Several of the people who left comments said that they had actually found wallets or other valuables and either tried or succeeded in returning the items to the rightful owners. Several others said that they would do the right thing if they had the opportunity.

Today, I was on the receiving end of a stranger’s honesty and benevolence. I had a medical appointment in a nearby city, and afterwards my husband and I went out for lunch. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I had dropped my wallet on the parking lot on the way in to the restaurant. While we were eating, my husband’s cell phone rang. It was the receptionist from the clinic I had just visited.

Seems that someone found my wallet on the parking lot. That person found the card inside with my doctor’s phone number, called there, and asked if they could contact me. The receptionist dialed our cell phone number to let us know that my wallet had been found and left with the manager of the restaurant where we were having lunch.

We picked up my wallet from the manager’s office. My credit cards, personal ID cards, and my $8.41 in cash were all intact. I never did meet this Good Samaritan, so if this sounds like you, thank you so much!

This just goes to show that there are good, honest people out there. Probably lots of them. If you have been the giver or recipient of a good deed, leave a comment. We could all do with a little good news for a change.

It is sooooo good to hear there are still honest people in this world that would return your wallet. My hubby picked up a wallet on one of the oil sites where he worked. It was stuffed with American money. My hubby took it to security right away he wouldn’t think of doing anything else.

We do have many good people, it’s just that we hear so much about wrongdoers that we dont always think about the good folks. We were at a lab one day, my guy was having blood work done.We came home and the phone rang asking him if he left his phone at the lab. He looked for his cell and of course it wasn’t there. We went back and picked up his phone. Someone had found it in the chair he was sitting in and turned it in. We were grateful. We wouldn’t have known what happened to it otherwise. And another time my guy went to the bank to take some money out. He just stuffed it in his pocket and later took it out to put in his wallet. He found he had a hundred dollars too much, so of course he went back and gave it to the teller. She was thrilled she still hadn’t noticed that she was short a hundred dollars.

I believe they exist but the bad things that happen overshadow us.I work in a huge fitness center part time, and find a little bit of everything.I have turned in wallets full of money, diamonds, cell phones, saphires, ipodes…you name it.I could have easily taken it and no onw would have been the wiser. But I value my job and didnt need the members things. But the most disapointing thing is i hardly ever get a “thank you”but for a few times out of any of the members.Glad you ran into one that day.
