Bitter Veracity of Blood for Blood
Revenge is a kind of wild justice; which the more man’s nature runs to, the more ought to law to weed it out.
Francis Bacon (1561-1626), English philosopher, lawyer, and statesman mentioned in his Essays “Of Revenge” (1625), “Revenge is a kind of wild justice; which the more man’s nature runs to, the more ought to law to weed it out.”1 If we think in terms of humanity it would be easy to comprehend reality. International justice and morality demand that if a person unjustly kills another person then the murderer must be answered in the same coin. In majority of the countries the justice dispensing institutions award death sentence to killer to make him an example for rest of the society. The unfair exoneration of criminals not only gives birth to lawlessness in the society but also works to provide carte blanche to nefarious elements to victimize law abiding and peace loving members of the society. Therefore, it is mandatory that such brutal elements should be made an example for rest of the community to control terrible felonies.
But if the victims do not get justice from the justice dispensing institutions then they take law into their own hands to retaliate the wrongdoers according to their own capacity. Revenge instills boldness in them by boiling their blood. People instigate kith and kin of the victims by passing sarcastic remarks that also act as motivating factor to inflict vengeance on their enemies. In nuclear families only nearest blood relatives of the victims take revenge. In case of villages near and dear ones coordinate in settling of scores with enemies. In tribal areas if a person belonging to a clan is killed or persecuted by persons belonging to another tribe then the whole ethnic group of the sufferer becomes bloodthirsty enemy of their opponents. There is strong affiliation in tribes that is obligatory for their own survival by warding off enemies. Ibne Khaldon also proposed the concept of solidarity in ethnic groups.
Revenge on the basis of ethnic affiliation is a dominant passion in Afghanistan and the Northern of Pakistan. More than 40 percent population of Afghanistan belongs to Pashto speaking martial race. Similarly, in the Northern Areas of Pakistan Pashtun population is overriding. Therefore, even non-Taliban Pashtuns have sympathies with the Pashto speaking Taliban instead of with the foreigners and their stooges in Hamid Karzai’s government. Therefore, the western and the West-inspired marionettes are the desired targets of suicide attacks .In case of Afghanistan the ISAF troops are using deadly weapons against the civilian population; therefore, even the peace loving natives have turned to bloodthirsty enemies of the aggressive invaders and expressed their allegiance with the Taliban. Majority of the Pashto speaking people of the Northern Areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan have ethnic, religious and sectarian affiliations with the Taliban that has strengthened their stronghold in the region by making them a formidable force to be reckoned with. As they are defending their country; therefore, they have great sympathies of the noncombatant locals. In Pakistan several of the suicide explosions were planned and commenced by the reprehensible elements that have become tools in the hands of foreign intelligence agencies that want perpetual instability in Pakistan to pave way for its disintegration and denuclearization.
