Discipline Must Begins at Home

As we all know, this topic is a much discussed one, especially among parents and teachers. The main question which asked is about “Who should discipline the young?” The parents point their finger at the teachers while the teachers point their fingers back at the parents. How long should this situation happen?

To begin with, we must try to look at this topic carefully and then maybe the issues can be viewed more clearly. Firstly, children spend most of their time at home compared to school. Based on this premise, discipline should begin at home but why parents still point their fingers at the teacher? When children are at home, parents have more time to get to know them on a more informal basis. If we look carefully, this is an important factor. Parents have to take time off to get to know their children better. Otherwise, they would be in a losing battle when it comes to disciplining their children.

In addition, children tend to become closer to people who frequently spend time with them. In becoming attached to these people, many of them are eager to please. When this happens, the disciplining them will not pose any problem. However, parents who are always busy at work, find that they have difficult task of disciplining their children whom them do not really know and the children begin to lose faith in them. Eventually, they lose their respect for such parents and this is the beginning of discipline problems. If parents are unable to make them do what is right, do you think teachers will be able to handle or to do so?

Now, let’s look at the role of a teacher. A teacher has an average of 150 to 200 students to take care of in one day and the average time spent with these students is about four hours out of 24 hours in a day. So, you can think how much attention can a teacher pay on each student? There are so many students but so little time to get to know them. Therefore, teachers are unable to get to know the students as well as their parents can.

Finally, parents who spend more time with their children at home will therefore be able to get to know their children very well. They are definitely in a better position to discipline their own children.
