Discrimination: What is It
Discrimination does not discriminate.
I would say whatever your race you have been discriminated against. I don’t care if your white, black, hispanic, or an American Indian for that matter at some point in your life someone has made a difference in you just plainly because they didn’t like you. And, that is what discrimination is, a difference being made in you for some reason. Yes there are different levels but it’s all for the same reason that person has a problem with you. I am white, I live in a small southern predominantly white town I see discrimination all the time. Everyone plays this equal rights card but when it comes down to it which one gets the job you or the boss’s nephew. Color has nothing to do with it in some cases and in others of course it does. If you are a minority some of the jobs you got that should have went to someone else was because they needed a certain amount of minorities on the payroll, experience had nothing to do with it. And on the same note some of the jobs that went to someone else when it was clear that you were the most qualified were because of that same reason because you were a minority. Where I am from you are a minority simply because you don’t wear Polo or Tommy Hilfiger jeans. I have been discriminated against because I didn’t know someone, the way I talk, or my appearance was not to their liking. But, when I finally get a job with a major transportation company in the area people that didn’t seem to know me before suddenly have the urge to acknowledge me now. I never knew wearing a company logo would make that much difference. I have always been taught that you must respect someone to be respected. Well, that’s true in some cases but in a lot of cases you are respected not because of what you do but because of what you have and/or who you know. This is why a convicted felon in our community walks free after serving a few months of a four year sentence. He was talking on the internet to what he THOUGHT was a thirteen year old girl and it turned out it was an FBI agent I am not saying what he was charged with saying and doing. But, the point is as far as he knew she was only thirteen, and the kicker is he was a referee for high school ball games. But because he knows someone he gets out and doesn’t even have to register as a sex offender. In his case it wouldn’t be discrimination it would be favoritism. I don’t care who you are, or who you know if you do something like that you should serve time.
