Foster Care in India

There is very limited foster care in India. Some cities have now begun programs to care for the children of parents in prison for life, afflicted with aids and some other catastrophic situations.

The perception of foster care in India as compared to the United States is that the US provides superior care. That might be true if evaluated on a case by case basis, however the US has its share of major problematic care situations as well. One example of foster care in America is of Jenny a preschool girl with behavioral prblems. Little Jenny is unaware that the man who she calls daddy is not her biological father. She does not consider for a moment that her mommy is not a blood relative. Both dote on the little girl and are helping her to quickly overcome the problem behaviors that are a result of drug use in the home of her biological parents. Fortunately for her she lives in one of the best possible foster homes with devoted people who love her as their own. Meanwhile in India, a little girl named Mahesh is a very thin child who has her own set of behavior problems.

The causative factors were most likely the result of parents who were incapable of caring for her due to their own abnormal mindsets. This child has no foster home, either good or bad to go to. The disparities in the lives of these two girls in approximately the same age group and both taken from their with disfunctional parents are caused by one thing. That single factor is the geographical location they were born in. Destiny located one, little Maresh in the large country of India in the midst of abject poverty severe enough to cause malnutrition in many such children. The other, Jenny, took her first breath in a prosperous country, the United States. In many foster care homes in the US children are well cared for. However, there are bad ones where the kids are treated as simply a source of income for people who mistreat or ignore them. At least adequate food is provided. The instance of the need for foster care continues to rise concurrent to use of drugs and children bearing children without the means or ability to care for them.

It seems to be a cut above the situation for homeless children living in India though. The inability of a poor country to provide adequately for their large groups of children without parents to care for them is multiplied by the vast quantity of people. Things like foster care are beyond the ability of the country to provide. The concept in fact is beyond the comprehension of the average citizen in India.
