Misconceptions About Bullying

Common misunderstandings people have about bullying.

Many people tend to think of bullying as something that everyone at one point or another in their lives has to experience. Many people also think that when someone is getting bullied, they just need to deal with it an toughen up in order to get through it. This is normally the most stereotypical view of bullying, but what most people do not consider is that bullying is something that can leave a person with lifelong emotional traumas and other injuries that will not be able to be healed. Being bullied can also leave people with the inability to make rational choices in their lives and to be able to function normally. Bullying can also lead to a poor self image as well as depression and other even worse emotional states of mind.

Another misconception of a bully is someone who does not have any confidence and is trying to make up for their lack of self worth, by bossing other people around and using fear and violence to get what they want. This actually is not the case. Most bullies are people with a lot of confidence and friends and what they use bullying for is to keep their power and control over other people. Bullies are normally very popular and do not need to bully to find their self worth, they only do it to protect what they already have.

Many people also believe that bullying is something that only happens in certain schools within certain classes of people. This is not the case either as many people find themselves in a power struggle when they are put into social situations. Many upper class schools and things of that nature have bullying issues because of the amount of high self esteem and power and control issues. Bullying is not something that is only for the weak minded.

People also think that boys are the only people that are bullied. This is not always the case as girls have their own ways of dealing with power and control issues and will do whatever they can, in some cases to make sure that they remain in control and are powerful around other people. They can do this by saying mean things and spreading rumors. Other people think that bullying only happens in high school, but bullying can start at anytime, anywhere at anyplace among people or children in general. Many people also think that bullying occurs among individuals of higher intelligence, but studies show that people who are bullied are usually people who have or appear to have a sexual disorientation.
