Responsible Citizenship & Cultural Differences

Becoming a Global Citizen is not just for corporations who responsibly manage tens of thousands of lives, but it is equally shared by each person that makes up the global community of mankind.

Cultural differences do not change the deeper responsibility of every human being for one another. In this sense every person is needed in order to insure the protection of the earth and the inherent qualities of sustainability therein. Corporate Social Responsibility and the development and implementation of such programs like FreeTrade and GRI are but one instance of the growing trend towards corporate citizenship and individual citizenship to look beyond the domestic boundaries of freedom to the larger possibility of procuring and insuring that future citizens have the same or better resources available to them.

This goal cannot be reached without the cooperation and industry of those who both exercise and practice the principles of the sustainable dignity of the human person, at work and in leisure. Many times this is a challenge to both the corporation that implements sustainability, the government that regulates its growth and the citizens that meet its challenges. The tension of meeting these standards for growth brings about new implementations both on the scientific as well as the political arena, since they both grow to meet the demands of cultural conflict and cultural success. Persons inherently gifted meet cultural differences as normal growth. Religion seeks to act towards what it cannot easily understand, while responsible citizenship seeks to share what it has naturally been endowed with.

CSR relies upon the strength within the corporation to exchange goods with others to whom it serves. Cultural diversity seeks to contribute thru cooperating responsibly in working towards common goals. This has been one reason why the Global Reporting Initiative has become a strategic launching pad for many corporate citizens who have entered into its proposed guidelines for monitoring sustainability in all areas. As Mr. Jim Skinner of McDonald’s has indicated the importance of Corporate social responsibility is significant in that it allows corporations to carry on a legacy of what it has received while at the same time bearing the diversity of its needs for growth and making a place where consumers can sense an investment of sustainability towards its community; lastly, it provides a catalytic engine for its global corporate partners in its industry.

Many persons today see and understand that society is a progression from one state to another along roads which lead to advances in every area of human endeavor, even religion. Religion will never become the center of a thriving technological society as we are in today, but personal responsibility goes deeper than organized religion. Freedom and choice are only as relevant as the silent and often hidden deliberations of individuals. Today, these hidden deliberations are taking on more and more concrete manifestations. Namely, thru the development and sharing of global corporate social citizenship. The strength of corporate citizenship cannot be undermined, since it provides the needed development of individuals and corporations, which are making pathways for the future leaders of the world. Larger corporations today are taking time to re-think or plan more judiciously along the paths of sustainability and Global Reporting Initiative guidelines hoping that this ensures safer environment for the future.
