I am addicted to this game I have played on and off and now I have come back to the game. I am planning to get my account maxed this year. I can play this game for 20 hours straight without breaks, it scares me. I have no social life or skills. I do have a part time job but I have no drive or confidence outside of the apartment and I am constantly depressed. Runescape is my heroin it seems, I am 19 years old I first played Runescape in 7th grade. I have noticed that my sex drive has gone, and my depression more severe over the years, and chronic pain with a lot of anxiety problems on the outside world. I contemplate suicide frequently as the alternative. I\'ve never had a girlfriend and my memories are all lost. I can\'t remember anything and I don\'t understand how to compose myself in a professional manner, or make eye contact. I am painfully introverted as a result of this and I can\'t function in society.

i started playing the year it came out, and i could never quite seem to put it down. I played for 12 hours a day, and never seemed to get much further. Sure, the levels were awesome, and the graphics were crappy, but the game was fun and pretty addictive. Eventually, i shelled out money to keep playing, for new stuff, and better environments. I got sucked in. I still play pokemon to this day.

after reading this, I feel like something is getting lost in the translation. It is great that you have found a way to better your life by excluding a game from it, but your argument is invalid. children choose to play it, much like people choose to smoke cigarettes. However, there are no "addictive" substances in runescape, only the euphoria you have while playing that you are addicted to. Is being happy a bad thing? and the argument with collecting pixel? in dungeons and dragons, you spend hours leveling and collecting gear for what? its all fake. for that matter, how many of you can actually redeem the guns you earn in call of duty? or get the diamonds from minecraft? good article, but remember to take moderation in all things, especially things that are highly addicting. Runescape for life!

lol, wow. I like how you speculate and give no actual facts or figures with sources. @ everyone saying they agree and have moved on to better things: good job changing your addiction to another medium. lol.

Still not understanding? I really read all of this and still came to same conclution. 50% writers have depressed about something else than a game. And its not just runescape that makes you wanna play them and skip school or something like that. There are so many games in this world. And alll of us are addicted to something. And if you wanna kill yourself over a game, maybe you should tell someone around you about your feelings so they can provide you the help which is needed. I think that 20% of writers dont know what they are talking about. And the rest 30% have played RS and dont have any depressions etc. So i really think that the game cant make u depressed. Maybe just addicted. Addiction always causes something else. And thats a fact.

Wow, comparing Runescape to crack addiction. Nice.

I played RS for two years or so. I got to level 100, bought all the items I ever wanted, became bored and stopped playing. The game never interfered with my regular or academic life. In fact, it made my life better because the boys at my school thought I was cool. Yeah, I was definitely popular among my friends, but that was not the reason why I played.

Runescape is just like any other game or activity. If you devote too much time to your job, for instance, then you've got a problem. It's not necessarily your job's fault that you're addicted to working. Same rule applies to any MMORPG.

And to anyone who has been scammed or hacked. Stfu. That's what happens when you start trusting people over the internet. Don't talk to anyone on RS unless you know them personally. Your account will be forever unknown to the majority.

A runescape addiction isint negative, unless you have trouble controlling it. Otherwise runescape is a good pass time and can help you in your life in multiple forms that isint easily seen. Also runescape wouldent be much of a popularity killer, because you can controll your popularity with simple words, and there are other people who play runescape too so youll have a large amount of friends in real life and in a virtual world.

I started playing Runescape when I was 11. I have only tried to quit once since then. It has taken over a big section of my life. It's sad I know, I wish I never discovered the game. I recently quit for a couple months because I knew it was bad for my health. I got bored one night and decided to go to check things out. Next thing I know here I am, addicted to Runescape once again. I have been depressed a lot lately. I blame part of it on me being cooped up in my house 90% of my spare time playing Runescape and the occasional other online game. I have even contemplated suicide. I want to stop I really do....but with an addictive personality like mine, its near impossible. I have been playing this game for 5 years now, 5 years of my life wasted, my highschool life, wasted. If you see me online, my name is redwaller66, add me and tell me to get off please please please!

i play for about an hour in the hours where i cant sleep at night say at like 12 so i go on the laptop to speak to some girls on msn and then i go on runescape when they get boring. i have an action packed day of college each day i have tons of friends that i love. and at least 3 social events in a fortnight i level 96 im not addicted at all i might go on it now because im bored and if you think about it there is no point in anygames like on xbox, ps3 the computor there all useless but still its fun and time consuming. like for example golf in real life what is the point iin playing golf no point but i still play it. fishing what is the point in fishing in real life nothing. every activity is pointless pretty much all you get is experience in life for it and socializing for example an experienced call of duty player you might say hes sad but he is playing cod with his friends from work or college so he is socializing xD
