Societal values vs. Personal Values

How the fast changing society has started to clash with the personal values of individuals.

It seems that recently society is almost the determining factor that is the pivot pin in everyone’s decisions. Without the yay or nay of society people have avoided topics that society hasn’t touched on yet. With the vast variety that society has taken, there is not much that any one person can do that doesn’t have a consequence or a label attached to it. Parents, teachers, suits, blue-collar workers, doctors, nurses, every person has been labeled the question then becomes good or bad?

Parents think about how they were raised where punishment could be anything from a time out, grounding or getting belted one on their behind and think that now society doesn’t view any of those a proper measure of corrective discipline. It has become apparent that with how society views abuse that parents can be called abusive if they raise their voices to be heard over the loudness of their own children. Spanking is now abuse. How can anyone discipline his or her children if you can’t touch or talk to them? Giving them time to cool off in their rooms, restrict what they can and cannot do, see or say? You can’t and that starts the generations of youngsters that hold no respect for anyone but them selves.

Younger couples who feel that they are ready in an intimate relationship have always been told that they had to wait until after marriage before they could engage in intimate relations. But society says that it is acceptable to have intimate relations before marriage, as long as they are both consenting and of the age to understand the consequences. How does that make it right? Well society says. Society has chosen to allow something that is spiritually founded as a belief and how that it affects their lives. Society claims to be with the church. But against the church and the beliefs of the church society says it’s okay to have sex before marriage, you just need to both be consenting persons of legal age.

When is it okay to allow society to say that after one accident that Child Welfare should be sent into a home of a young single mother and make her believe that her children are going to be taken away, and that is the only incident that happened? Shouldn’t there be a limit for the mixed up values of society to dictate our lives?

Great article! Especailly about the way society sees punishment for our youth today. America wonders why we have so many kids in trouble and disrespecting adults and authority. Because parents are not allowed to punish their children. Scares me to think how the next couple of generations are going to be with the way kids are getting away with today.

The sad part is continous neglect of society as a whole is what is causing such great issues in everything that an individual does. Nothing comes free anymore. Labels and consequenses to those who follow their own values are now the result of what society is wanting. Society should be re examined and put to an end.
