The Things That Puzzle Me Most
I have been taught that Earth is the only privileged with life. If it is true, then it is indeed astonishing, and puzzling. If there is life elsewhere in the Solar System, it is again astonishing and puzzling. The occurrence of life itself is astonishing and puzzling. I have wondered how life began and how we have come to be what we are now..

Every year when the fruit trees start to flower again, I know that another fruit season is just around the corner. With startling regularity and simultaneity the trees become crowned with red, white or yellow flowers, depending on the type of tree. It is such a wonderful event, this gift of fruits from the trees and I am very thankful that we can enjoy these sweet succulent fruits. However, something puzzles me – it is the trees themselves. How do they know when to flower? Do they communicate with one another? From what I had learned in school, trees do not posses calendars nor can they communicate with one another. If that is so, then the trees should flower at random and we will not have “fruit seasons”. Rather we would have fruits at unpredictable times. However, we do have these “season”, the flowering of the trees are definitely not random. So how do we explain this? I am puzzled.

The Migration of Birds and Animals
The annual migration of birds and animals is another puzzling thing. In a tropical country like ours, we see literally thousands of swallows’ winter in the Northern Hemisphere. The question is; how do they know when to fly south (or north when summer comes to the Northern Hemisphere) and where to fly to? As a human being who lives near the equator, I cannot feel any noticeable difference in my surroundings regardless whether it is winter or summer up North. So how do the birds know? Yet they know, for when June comes, they would have flown north and towns are free of them. It is actually a blessing for car – owners in towns that these swallows migrate. Nobody likes washing a car covered with bird – shit the whole year through.

A thought provoking and very well written article. I can only assume that birds and trees are supersensitive to temperature and light and this is what causes their processes. I am only guessing. I can’t offer an explanation for gravity. I am just glad it is there. good work.

I had the same question when I was a child. How life began and how we have come to be what we are now. If God creates the nature, then who does create God? Now I choose to only trust.

Very nice! Two books you might like “A Short History of Nearly Everything: Bill Bryson (go on Amazon and buy a used hard cover edition- much better than the paperback), and Stephen Hawking’s “A Brief History of Time”
Thanks,

mrghaz, every time I read someone say that they’re bored, I will send them this article. It’s unfortunate that more people can’t be captivated and fascinated by the many amazing things right outside our door.
This was your crowning achievement, very well done =)
