Addressing a Gender Bias in Spiritual Development and Spiritual Evolution

The fact that an article such as this would need to be written is a sad indication of a gender bias in religion or spiritual experience. The idea that Source would be male biased is ridiculous on so many levels including the idea that Source would be gender based and that even if this was true, how could wholeness be biased?

From the emergence of light from seeming darkness, the formation of physical reality has always been shown to be of perfect balance and wholeness. Those who have experienced the mysticism of their religion would never question the nature of wholeness and balance and should be amazed by anyone suggesting that the male aspect of Divinity be the predominant one. In ancient Hebrew text we see emerging physical nature represented by the tetragrammaton of YHVH. This was seen as the unpronounceable name of deity, yet its underlying mystery reveals a great teaching of wholeness.

The beginning YH represents the masculine emergence along with the feminine VH emergence. Note here that we see the emergence of the two polarities being simultaneous. The idea that the masculine emergence would be “first” or that the female aspect be second is ridiculous. The idea that the emergences be labelled as “masculine” or “feminine” is also very misleading. At an atomic level we see positive protons are orbited by negative neutrons. How could one be more important than the other and how would reality behave if there was a positive bias in all of this? Let us move away from the scientific analogy and move onto something more emotive; spiritual experience.

The experience of singularity within religious experience is often thought of as being either one, as in “only one”, or single as in “there is no more”. These misconceptions remove all the intricacies and the characteristics of reality and leave a cold clinical wasteland behind. The other side of this is the bias toward the male energetic presence. and a turning away from the female presence. Singularity is in fact a complete experience of totality that includes all things as representative of Source which gives unlimited colour and dimension to our personal experience.

The female dimension is a phenomenal driving force. Its depth and power are vital to the very nature of reality. To say that the male wine is more important than the female glass is of course nonsense for the glass is vital to the whole. Yet the female energy is so much more than a mere receptacle for creation. This is also a misconception that leads to a misguided view of male dominance in other areas of life. At the point of existence the glass and the wine are coexistent simply because they are ONE and they are WHOLE. The wine would be nothing without the intense strength and courage of the glass. To give is one thing yet to truly receive is the power that drives creation for the reception is what makes the “give” possible.

For so long women and the female presence have been seen as second class when it come to religious experience and the thought of the female being included as ritual leaders has caused much anger amongst those who may have read much doctrine yet have had very little direct experience of reality. To negate this aspect is at best small minded and at worst is dangerous to the universal consciousness of humanity. This bias causes discord and imbalance and results in the world that we have right now.

The flow of wholeness through our personal self, our immediate environment and the world we see is essential for us individually to recognise the nature of ourselves and the nature of reality. Those who declare the superiority of the male or delight in pressing down the female spirit simply have no direct contact with Source. If they had they would immediately see the absurdity of their lies and would have that unmistakeable experience of wholeness and Singularity. Rather than direct experience they prefer to use doctrine to somehow “prove” their case for they know that when faced with Truth they have no argument.

Let us now, finally, after much time and pain and suffering has passed to embrace the Truth that is around us and within us. Let us embrace the totality of Source with passion and energy and look up from our dusty manuscripts to the Light that surrounds us. Here there is no exclusion for here we see everything.
