Being, Rather Than Having

We vigorously pursue material possessions in life in disregard to the deep and important essence of being. Being what you want first is vital before you finally embark on your pursuits.

Before we roll our eyes over, can we have some reflections first? Here is a simple question; for how long does a new possession continue to excite us? Let us say a new pair of shoes, a week, month, year? Generally a week or so and we are off pursuing another need or want. Yes, there is a difference between a need and a want and let me be far from trying to describe the two, we all know it.

Being is the state of agreeing with your soul that you are what you want to be. This needs a very mature and deep understanding of the essence of life itself and not the issue of a job, career, having a house, car, or whatever else. How many of us try to pull out of the haste of life and find solace within our souls in deep and reflective thoughts?

We have to agree, however unpalatable, that we are the architects of our own lives. Granted, we live with other humans and on some occasions and they will be numerous, other people and events will interfere with our flow of life. The trick here comes on how we take them on. We see volumes and volumes of literature on stress management, self-improvement and uncountable how-to’s all lecturing us to boredom on how to run our lives. How we feel like waking up one day and setting the whole lot ablaze! Not a bad idea after all.

Being calm and unruffled by the bustle of life is the ultimate invincibility. Incidentally, we all must be in the turbulence of the flow of the river of life but we can do it in our own way. Mental asylums are filling up rapidly due to man’s inability to cope with reality. We only shrug knowingly when we hear of a suicide. What does all this imply?

Simple; possessions don’t excite man any more. He is now trying to reconnect with the universe and deeply see with eyes of the soul what ‘TO BE’ really means.

Are You Trying?
