Brief Look at The Real Self

by TusitalaTom in Spirituality, November 1, 2009

A short essay on that part of us that knows all about us.

There is a part of us that knows all about us.  It knows us absolutely.   It knows our desires.  It knows our fears.    This part of us is aware of our conscious thinking and what goes on in the “ice berg below the waterline: ” our subconscious, reactive thought.   It is this unlimited, unbounded, all-knowing us that is our Real Self: our Higher Self.

Once we have developed faith in our Higher Self, we are on the way to becoming the Higher Self.   And when  a permanent blending of our little self and our Higher Self occurs, this is called Self Realization.

The process of getting to Self Realization comes from a methodology which often begins with Self Actualization.   Self Actualization is the deliberate development of as many of our faculties as we feel urged/inclined to undertake.   We wish to grow.  We wish to expand.  We wish to reach our greatest potential.   This eventually leads to deliberate seeking, spiritual-seeking, serious meditation and the like.   From these, a momentum is created which brings us to a more dedicated effort.   We begin to realize where we’re headed:  Higher Self Realization, Atman, Buddahood, or Christ Consciousness, the label used isn’t important, but this is the goal.

Where comes an essay such as this other than from the promptings of a Higher Self?   This would be a Higher Self  working through one of its personalized instruments: the mind-body of a littleself, a human being who has willingly (though somewhat begrudginlgy at first)  gradually relinquished enough of his egoic autonomy to The Source, or the Almighty, or Infinite Intelligence  -label this what you like also -  to enable this?

The enigma is that there is ‘individuation’ and‘wholeness;’  that human beings are separate from one another but are also one entityknown as Humankind.   Moreover, because we are one, we have, at our deeper levels, ‘intercommunion,’ and ‘inter-communications.’   Only the veils of our ‘ego minds’ keep the majority of us from knowing this.    But every essay like this, which is read by those who are ready, helps chip away, chip away, bit by bit,  the egoic shells which surround us.

I hope that, in some small way, this has done chipping for for you.
