Divinity Margins.

Spirituality in its true essence liberates the mind, takes us to the level of pure joy and peace, and increases our tenacity in warding unhappiness. Sometimes sadly spirituality binds us in a web of self begotten labyrinth of abstinence and tenets, and that is when the inherent meaning gets lost.

She believes spirituality as  a fracas and has vowed never to turn spiritual.  To this day she gets nightmares and when she calls me sometimes, I casually suggest that what she had witnessed had been fanaticism and not spirituality. But she stays disinterested. The timing and the attitude of the spirituality forced on her had been fatalistic.

But yet, most folks don’t quite grasp the alchemy of Spirituality. Following a popular ensemble in the vicinity, they then start the customary set of practices quoted under spirituality. They then extract their own tribe .  But when you study such people at proximity, you find them to be pompous preachers, abusive reactors and sometimes, even loners.  This genre of the spiritualists miss the core concept of spirituality. Spirituality is about that gracious smile rather than the petulance towards the unfavorable. Spirituality is about being as innocent as a child on new horizons and yet be assertive and strong against the adverse. Sadly enough, oftentimes, it has been discerned, that this genre misuse spirituality to convince their virtue, to gain attention or to triumph an ego battle.

It is easy to misconceive the concept in the surfeit of commercialization today on spirituality.  Yet would be slower but prove more beneficial to extract, and benefit from, the true concept of spirituality. One does not give up passions, hobbies, relations and lifestyles for spirituality. In fact, it makes the above more merry, seen in lucid terms. Spirituality is not about being the happy scapegoat or the sacrificial deer. Spirituality is not about adhering to social norms or about being righteous. Spirituality has no age no creed.  You do not have to practice the customary for 24 hours/7 days. See spirituality as yet another hobby. See spirituality as a belief but not as the dagger to make you righteous or others around you righteous. See spirituality as a release to joy and new horizons.

I have been particularly impressed by a popular spiritualist, whose teachings have benefited millions. Sad is the fact that this enigma too has not escaped quibbling. The persona I am referring to is Sri Sri Ravishankar,  the man behind Art of Living. Watch this video to find out his thoughts on spirituality.

On the personal front, my husband  has anointed me towards spirituality with a well comprehended ethos. My brother-in-law, an amazing individual himself, is an ardent follower and my intelligent and sweet sister has started prancing behind him on the path. My grandmother who prayed about five minutes a day,  often narrated stories from Bhaagvad Geeta to demonstrate softly to me against some iniquity I had committed. Though the incidents are lost, the phrases still remain in my mind. Yet some mortals have left me surprised at their ludicrous notions on spirituality!

I have genuinely enjoyed penning down my thoughts in this article. I may have disconcerted the cool of some. Regardless, please feel free to leave your thoughts.

Well, any spiritual practice has to transform the mind to a point where one can think beyond oneself.Dr.Wayne Dyer said “EGO” means Edging God Out…As human beings we all have our shortcomings but we are very privileged because we have an intellect and have the power of speech. To me spirituality in its simplest form means simply staying away from negative thoughts and actions and doing my duty to the best.As you have rightly pointed out when things are presented the wrong way and at a wrong time,it has a detrimental effect…it’s almost like giving tasty somosa to someone who has canker sores in the mouth..no matter how nice the somosa may be,it’s going to hurt like crazy when that person eats it!

Geetha, that is right. I have been moving towards spirituality lately and have realised that there are wrong impressions about it on different fronts.
