Interview with an Intuitive

In my quest to learn more about psychic ability, I interview an intuitive. I end up learning much more about myself.

Interview with an Intuitive

I met Carole Leary at a neighborhood Starbucks for chai and chat. I had been trying to interview this well known psychic for weeks. Schedules being what they are; we settled for coffee and an hour of discussion.

I wouldn’t have recognized her from her appearance. A striking brunette around forty headed towards my table. Her tweed business suit and briefcase made me wonder if she was going to ask to borrow my newspaper.

“Hi, Cathlene?” I hid my surprise with a subtle, “Yes, that’s me.”

“Do you mind if I sit?” I could feel her uneasiness as I nodded.

“Forgive my surprise and obvious subtly. You are not quite what I expected.”

Carole gave a hearty laugh and erased all trepidations about our visit. Apparently her visual presentation set most people back. I explained I wasn’t expecting a woman in chains, flowing skirt and babushka; but … Again, the welcoming chuckle.

“Most people have an idea of what a psychic, medium or intuitive is. They also have a mental picture of a small woman carrying a crystal ball. I’m just like anyone else. I work for a bank, have two children and take out the trash.”

Her easy manner made the interview flow. My first question was one of repetition as her response seemed well rehearsed.

“The difference between a psychic, medium, intuitive or clairvoyant is semantics.” She sipped her coffee and continued. “We all do basically the same thing, connect with the other side. We have different tools of the trade and go by different titles. I prefer intuitive because that’s what I use – my intuition.”

I asked about the tools of the trade: Tarot, Runes, Pendulums, etc.

“Honestly, I use the Tarot as a visual for the client. I generally know what they are going to ask and the outcome. Clients pay good money for my advice and insight. They want the tactile of the cards and the visual of the images. I do look and interpret the spreads; but generally they are symbiotic with my already established conclusions.”

I listened to her, fascinated by her articulation and knowledge of the subject. I forewent the obvious questions: when did you know you were psychic, when did you start reading for others, et al.

“Carole, what is it that makes your intuition different from mine?”

“Great question and simple to answer. Nothing! The only difference is that I prepare myself spiritually and physically so that my intuition is honed. Everyone has cases of déjà vu, sensatory wisps of perfume or tobacco, or premonitions. They just haven’t learned to harness this gift and understand its potential.”

I wrote furiously as she spoke. “See, you aren’t listening with your intuitive mind to what I’m saying. You are writing quickly so as not to miss a word I say. If you relaxed your body, spirit and cleared your mind; you would take in much more.” Embarrassed, I put my pen and paper down. Again that delightful laugh.

“Cathlene, I see signs. Dreams if you will. When I read someone a small image will come to me. Right now I see a spaghetti bowl of freeways, traversing, crossing over, a mess. I would tell you that your life, not your family or career, but your inner self is in chaos. You want to do everything and you attempt it. You are all over the interstate without finding an exit. You will find a straight road some day. The sign says five miles ahead.”

“Do you mean in five years? I have a five year plan. I want to write professionally, but find myself writing in all areas, not concentrating on one.” I was astonished at how her symbolism was in sync with my life.

“Five years, five minutes, five days. It’s a tool of direction. What happens when you see that you will be exiting in five miles; you merge into the correct lane and follow the path to the exit. Merge, find your path then exit. You’ll get there.”

We spoke for a few more minutes, my latte hadn’t been touched. I thanked her for her kindness and time. She embraced me in a sweet, sun-soaked gesture of friendship. I learned more about myself in the interview than about her. I wonder if she knew that coming in?

I think intuitive people are able to turn the tables on their interviewers and tell people exactly what they wish to hear.
I do however believe there could be some with odd insight or some small powers.t
