Living Spiritually
by Spirituality means different things to different people. I know for me, it has brought on a more sense of peace. With all kinds of technology at our finger tips, we are inundated with information almost 24 hours a day. Finding that calm during a storm has restored my inner being.
I don’t claim to be from one religion or the other. Most of my beliefs come from a melting pot of religious ideas all over the world. The central theme that I always gather is to treat others how you would like to be treated, with kindness and compassion.
On the days where I feel lost, confused, and down in the dumps, the things I learned from my spiritual studies have always stayed with me. To me, spirituality was to take notice of the everyday magic surrounding us. Going for a long walk by myself and not hearing anything but nature whispering in my ear would lift life’s stressful tension out of my shoulders. Sitting in calmness in a quiet room and hearing nothing but my own breath would bring me back to who I truly am.
Remembering that we are all somehow connected to one another made me more compassionate towards someone who took their bad day out on me. We’re all on this journey together. No one knows what can happen tomorrow. We only have today in our hands. A smile towards a stranger could have effects that stretch farther than you would ever know. They call it a “Secret” what you give in this world is what you get back. I don’t think it’s a secret. If you are rotten towards someone, most likely, they will copy your behavior and do the same back to you, and onto others. It then multiplies.
That’s why it’s important to nurture oneself. If you are happy on the inside, it shines through onto the world around you. That benefits all of us a lot more than someone who constantly tries to appease others and run themselves into the ground. Spirituality for me is taking a little time out of the day to let what is beyond our senses take over. Sometimes what we can’t see is more real than we know.
