The Grass Is Greener On The Other Side

Be sure not to land in a cow patty when climbing the fence.

Better Off With What I Had

So many times in life I’ve looked at the next guy and thought man I wish I had what they had until I got it. It was then and only then that I realized I was better off with what I had before. If it was a brand new car I wanted it. Once I got it I realized the sacrifices I had to make to keep it. I had to give up going out with friends, work extra hours just to have insurance money, on and on. I was never content with what I had. I had to have more. But, isn’t this the way of Americans. Must we all try to keep up with the Jones’?

Who Strengthens Me

It wasn’t until I read in Philippians 4:11-13, “ not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned in whatsoever state I am, therewith be content. I know both how to be abased: and I know how to abound: everywhere in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” These verses spoke to me. They caused me to question where I was in my life and my perception of what I needed in my life.

Having nice things is wonderful and having more than enough is a blessing that should be shared with the less fortunate. I looked at the times in my life when I had plenty and when I had nothing. I realized that those times of weakness or lack were only meant to help me appreciate the times when life was good.

Breaking It Down

I had to begin to break it down and look at my life decisions. I had to evaluate what effect the choices I was making were having on me and others. I had to realize that whatever the effect good or bad Christ would be my strength. I had to see that my true value was not in things, but in who I was on the inside. I saw that true joy came from not living externally, but eternally. I had to see that each decision I made as a Christian had a lasting effect on both myself and others for generations.

Are You Looking

Sometimes we think the next shopping trip, or the new house, or the new relationship will make us happy. We think that it will fulfill us, but it won’t. Oh, it may for a while I am sure, but not long term. Only finding peace with God and knowing that no matter what we face good or bad he is there will bring lasting joy and strength to make it through to greener pastures. So, if you are looking look no further Jesus is waiting with open arms to help you through whatever situation you face. Simply pray and ask.
