An advertisement for a Yoga class reads as, “If you cannot take care of your body where will you live.” Yoga and its benefits are considered as very popular among everyone nowadays, thus creating interest among them to learn. Life is the greatest gift of God and the aim of everyone’s life is not only to survive, but to enjoy it with better quality. In today’s modern world, people lead a busy life; hence it may be difficult to practice Yoga on a daily basis. Though it is necessary to take the guidance of an instructor initially, Yoga can be learnt and practiced from a young age.
The meaning of Yoga is nothing but a sum or unity of two entities. The actual meaning relates to the unison of self with God, or the cohesion of body and mind. Yoga is developed and practiced for the last thousands of years and is now well known as a part of Indian Culture. The beauty of Yoga is that it can be practiced at home conveniently and is also considered as a comprehensive exercise system for the body, mind and spirit. Yoga leads to a disciplined way of life and the four paths of Yoga are Karma, Raja, Bhakti, and Jnana. All these paths lead to same centre of consciousness enabling all to adopt and practice easily. Yoga is categorized into four types namely Physical, Normal, Mental and Spiritual, which constitute the eight vital principles of Yoga.
Yoga is meant to keep good health and adds years to an individual’s life span. It is necessary for everyone to make Yoga as a part of one’s life, thereby enhancing the efficiency of the holistic development of the human being. ‘Life is not living, but living in health,’ is what that matters. Practicing Yoga is now popular across the globe and several foreigners visit India to gain this knowledge.
