All Things Vampire
Growing vampire popularity.
There is a vampire craze going on. There is Stephanie Meyer’s “Twilight” series and the new show on the CW called “The Vampire Diaries”. Not that I’m going to complain, but why the sudden infatuation with vampires lately?
According to Wikipedia, vampires are mythological or folkloric beings who in a way exist by feeding off the blood of living creatures, regardless if the creature is living or undead. Other than the two previously mentioned vampire books and shows that are out, there have been others as well with depictions of vampires. There have been Dracula, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and of course many others.
Stephanie Meyer’s “Twilight” series is set in Forks, WA where one of the main characters, Bella, moves to live with her dad. There, she meets Edward and learns that he and his family are all vampires. Later on, another friend of hers, Jacob, who happens to be an Indian werewolf, realizes that Bella is falling in love with Edward.
The CWs new t.v. series, “The Vampire Diaries,” started off as a book series by L.J. Smith. Like “Twilight” it has made its way to be seen, but on a much smaller screen. “The Vampire Diaries” is about two vampire brothers, Stephan, who is good, and Damon who is the evil of the two. The show is set in Mystic Falls, VA where Stephan moves back to go to school. There, he meets Elena, who happens to resemble Katherine. Katherine had been the vampire that turned the two brothers into vampires. Both had also fallen in love her, but for different reasons.
So again I ask, what is it with the vampire craze? Not that I’m going to complain. As long as these authors keep turning out this great material, I’ll be sucking it all in.

My granddaughter loves these stories. I don’t get it but it seems to be the new thing. Interesting write up.
