Attitude Toward Eldery

We all know that attitudes toward eldery are different from society to society.In societes that emphasize the importance of family,eldery people are cosidered the responsibility of the family,who take care of their eldery relatives when they can no longer care for themselves.In societies that focus on independence and family is not seen as an unifying force,the older family members live in retirement,apart and sometimes hundreds of miles away from their family.
The advanteges to having an eldery family member is:
1.Economic one.The cost of retirement homes is very high.Some families may not be able to afford the thousand of dollars that they cost every month.If an eldery family member can afford to pay for it by his or her self,that money will then not be passed on to other family members when that person dies.Although medical bills and other costs would still be incurred if an eldery family member lives with another relative,it is still a better financial solution for some families.
2.Keeping family together is important.Societies thart allow their older members to live seperately from their families don’t put a high value on the eldery.Those societies see getting old as weakness and bother.The eldery are a pivotal part of any family should be treated with respect.Those people took care of other family members at one time in their lives,and so their children and grandchildren should take care of them when they need it.That’s what being a part of a family is all about.
3.Quality of life should be taken into consideration.Why should eledery people be alone in a retirement home when they could be living with family and helping cre for younger members of the familyif they are able?Grandparents are increasingly helping with things like childcare in many homes.This is a benefit to the eldery,who gets to spend time with their grandkids,and to the children themselves,who can learn from the experience of their elders.The lives of both generations can be enhanced in this way.
To summarize,the eldery are valuable part of society and deserve to be treated as such,not put in some home somewhere,forgotten about because people think they are a burden.The eldery should be able to live comfortable,productive lives surrounded by their loved ones for whom they once cared.
