Cliques

A girl’s guide to surviving middle school.

The Groups

From school to school these may differ, but usually the cliques follow some of these general guidelines:

The Populars

  • Girls who enjoy wearing makeup and showing off their assets, if you catch my drift.
  • Boys who are stupid *ahem* gullible enough to succumb to the breasts *ahem* charms of the Popular Girls.

Usually, this group is ignored by all of the ‘lesser’ groups, until they take over a school activity (School Musical, Volleyball Club, Choir, etc.) Then the ‘lessers’ do their best to ignore them, or cede to longing, and try desperately to join in their clique.

The Wannabes

  • Girls and Boys who aren’t quite ‘in’ and are always hovering near the Populars.

These people can be seen pretty much everywhere the Populars are, desperately trying to squeeze themselves into that inner circle. The chances of one making it into the elite group are hovering somewhere around one in a thousand or one in a million.

The Jocks

  • A vast majority of the males in this group are also included in the Popular group.

The Jocks are the ones who can be seen playing sports during recess, and are avid followers of the school’s sport programs. Females in this group are less likely to be included in the Popular group. Sexist, I know. But it’s true.

The Extremists

  • People who usually don’t get enough attention at home, so go to great lengths to secure it at school, becoming emo, goth, etc.

Can usually be found wherever something abnormal is going on. No more needs to be said.

The ‘Lessers’

  • Pretty much anyone who isn’t particularly outstanding at any one thing, aren’t as socially outgoing as others, or just plain old regular people, who don’t feel the need to thrust themselves into the limelight.

The Nerds

  • Nature’s most unfortunate breed – It seems that those who are classified as nerdy (the rather homely type) invariably end up in jeans an inch too short, glasses that darken outside, braces, headgear, and usually some very unusual hairdos.

I think that pretty much sums it up. If you have any you’d like to add just leave a comment and I’ll add it!
