Comparing Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt

This compares the ancient societies of Mesopotamia and Egypt.

Similarities

Both were polytheistic, they traded with each other, they relied heavily on agriculture, they invented many things, and they had one major person in charge of their societies.

Differences

They worshiped different gods, they traded on different sides of the ancient world, and they had different types of weapons to use in times of combat.

Thesis

The Ancient Mesopotamians and Egyptians had very alike cultures with their political figures, religious views, however they varied with their weapons they used in time of combat.
Beginning sentences – Both the Mesopotamians and Egyptians had one leader for their societies.

While they worshiped different gods the Mesopotamian and Egyptian society’s religious views were very similar. When the Mesopotamians and Egyptians went to war with rivaling societies, they had very different choices in the weapons they used.

Conclusion

The Mesopotamians and Egyptian societies were very similar in many ways, but still different at the same time.

Hmm…religious wise they’re almost the same? You mean in the sense of concept and practice right? since they worship different gods. I even read in one of the books on ancient Mesopotamian religious practice that’s close to prostitution but it’s not called so in that way. Think it was some kind of a way of worshiping aphrodite but they don’t call the love goddess as aphrodite, it was some other name that i’ve forgotten what it is.

yes i was talking about how they worshiped was similar, not that they had the same religion, because their religions varied greatly in the aspects of the gods they worshiped.

i think the way they worshiped was what divided them the most, in egypt they had an afterlife in which there heart was weighed against a feather and that decided wheather they lived in the afterlife or not, in mesopotamia you walked in a dry desert for all eternity no matter what you did on earth. so the egyptians were more likely not to sin . seeing as how the pharaoh was considered a god as well defying him was a sin. this differs in mesopotamia where the king is just a king, this leads to many take overs and political change in mesopotamia. thats just a few ways that religeon and practice of religeon is different

I agree that their religions were completely different, in the aspect that their gods were not similar at all and that the way they worshiped was different. The Egyptians took their religion very seriously, relating just about everything to it. The Sumerians and other kingdoms of Mesopotamia took religion seriously too, but they weren’t quite so specific with their rituals, and myths/legends, plus they didn’t quite make sure that everything helped the gods, or was related to the gods in such a way. The Egyptians were so strict about this, for example they didn’t think he pharaohs body should be cut, but the needed to take the organs out, so they had someone with a mask do the cutting to get the organs out, and fake chased them just to create a loophole around what they believed. The people of Mesopotamia were never this strict about there way of following the way of their gods.

In my social studies book for the natural defences Mesopotamia had flat mud plains; few natural resources.Egypt on the other hand had many natural resources; they had the Nile delta, Sahara, Eastern desert and cataracts.
