Emo: True or False?
Emo is a type of hardcore punk and is usually associated with depression, self injury, and suicide. This can differ from music to fashion and personality.
- All Emos cut themselves: False. Not all Emo people are forced to cut themselves just because people think this person is Emo. The Emos who do cut themselves are usually doing it because it is one way they express their emotions.
- Emo means emotional: True. That’s where the term Emo comes from, simple as that.
- All Emos like/wear black: False. Though most Emos do wear and like black doesn’t mean that all of them do. Here is an example we are all humans but we don’t all like the same colors do we?
- All Emos are sad all the time: False. They’re not sad all the time they can feel like other emotions too which usually anger but they can be happy.
- All Male Emos are homosexual: False. There are those who are but that doesn’t mean all of them are.
- All emos have long hair: False. Most of them do but not all of them and just because someone has long hair doesn’t mean they’re Emo. The ones with long hair you will probably see them with dyed hair or highlights in their hair
- All Emo people have piercings: False. Some do some don’t.
- All Emos write suicide notes: False. Not all of them do.
- All Emos wear make-up: False. Just because people think another person is Emo doesn’t mean that he/she wears make-up. But the ones who do usually wear eyeliner and or eye shadow.
- People who Emo are just like you and me except that they’re misunderstood by the public: True. Emo people are just like you and me so just because a person is Emo doesn’t mean that they’re labeled as “ A Teen with long hair who cuts himselve”! It simply means that they’re Emotional so they don’t have to have piercings or wear black to be what most people think is Emo.
Notes
- I use the word Emo so that the public knows what kind of people I am talking about not to offend anyone by thinking I was labeling them
- Most of the time you will see Emo people with long hair, wearing black, with piercings that is what most people call Emo but they’re some who look like normal people
- I hope this article has shed some light into what being Emo truly means. (Which by the way means being emotional).

I’m emo. Good job. But I want you to add something. You were very right about how some emos express themselves through cutting, but cutting isn’t the only way we express ourselves. I write songs, and poetry. And I like to draw. I look at emo as being a more creative, and yes as you said, emotional outlook on life than “normal people”. Even if I wasn’t emo, I still wouldn’t be normal =). MUSIC WRITING ART AND LOVE! FTW! =D

I am not “emo”, I mean I am…but one day I woke up one day and all of a sudden it was a fashion and a type of music. It was weird. I was like am I still dreaming? I don’t consider myself emo because I have not fallen into the world of trendiness. So I just want to state that even if you do fall into any of these categories it does not mean that you are emo.
Great article by the way. I know that those who are emo really don’t like to just be labeled and ridiculed for who they are.

hey guys, good article and others at schoool call me “emo” because of how my hair is and my makeup and my clothes i get bullied for it so now ive changed, im like everyone else wear “normal” clothes nondarkish makeup and have my fringe tied to the back do you think this is a right thing that i am doing?

xxNellyxx, I am an Emo, but if someone bullys me about it, I don’t care. Be who you want to be. It don’t matter what anyone else has to say about it. It’s your life, no one elses. (Emo’s are the best!)

Thats a really good thing what you said. Im Emo but i dont cut and then people say as i dont cut im not Emo. not every Emo in the world cut do they.! Btw Emo rule x Emo is and still is music like bands, Emo means emotional So not All Emos will be depressed it means mixed emotions!
Can you reply to this if you think All Emo but cause im trying to tell someone as they think All Emo cut but they think otherwise thanks x
