Freedom of Speech in Sports
Does it exist?
This article really started out about the college level because you see the punishment quicker in all division. A coach dispute a referee play and give his honest opinion about the call that was crucial to his team. And just let his frustation come out. He immediately is reprimanded by the commissioner in his division.
But that’s a freedom under our constitution that every citizen has except coaches because they the commissioners think the sensitive officials might take it serious when contracts come around.
Coaches shouldn’t be hog tied to be funkies to abide their business and just coach. The teams know we live in a human error society and not a perfect one. But no one wants to hear the officials got the call wrong during a big match.
All this do is let the players and coaches suspect any call the official makes. But by speaking out you make people better coaches and officials. All the coaches need to start fighting for their constitutional right and there is not a lawyer who won’t support your case that I know of.
