Graffiti Thoughts: A Personal Solution to Vandalism

Probably one of the most interesting articles on graffiti and law that you will read in recent times.

I am against defacement of someone’s property for the sake of art,I do however notice that many graffiti artists are quite gifted. I have an idea that might be valuable to cities and artists alike. Something called a graffiti mall, you might wonder what that is so I’ll elaborate.

A graffiti mall is essentially a large public building with bare rock or concrete walls built specifically for the purpose of graffiti. It’d be somewhere graffiti artists could express their talents and thoughts without fear of arrest. It would also give property owners a reprieve from having to deal with graffiti on their personal property.

Since there is quite an underground culture of graffiti artists and fans, I could foresee possible benefit to a city who allowed a graffiti mall to be built. Rather than outlawing graffiti totally, it should be regulated in the graffiti mall venue.

Fans of graffiti art would help the economies of any city where the malls were built. Furthermore there could be restaurants and the like across from the graffiti malls, adding more jobs for residents as well.

If anyone dislikes this plan, feel free to say so, but I think it’s a good idea.
