New Muslim TV Show Makes Fun Of Jesus

Little Masque On The Prairie is going to be aired on Canadian national broadcast station on January 9.
It was intended to build cross-cultural bridges and show Muslim community in a better light but is it going to be achieved by making fun of Jesus and Christianity?
I have nothing against the idea of the show but two previews of it that I saw today did not make a very good impression on me at all and I think that most professing Christians will share my reaction.
The first one in question was the conversation of two men who talked about a masque being moved into a Christian hall: “Who is going to tell Jesus about it first?” one of them asked.
I do not think that using the name, which is considered holy by so many people in the world, is a good idea, we may laugh about our cultural differences; it would be very healthy and interesting in a multicultural country like Canada but this is more a mockery of other religion.
Another pretends word confusion in an argument of a very religious Muslim father with his teenage daughter about what she is supposed to wear to school. When she puts on short blouse that shows her belly button, he comments: “No, you look like protestant!” and she corrects him “You mean, like a prostitute?”
Jokes of this nature for sure send a very clear message of how Muslims feel about Christians but for sure, it is not going to help build bridges between the two!

Let them air it. It will show Islamics in the proper light, ones who can poke fun at other religions but are unable to hanlde it in reverse.

I will confess that I have no idea about the nature of your personal belief system. I will share mine I was raised protestant and I still hold many Christian beliefs. I am a free thinker and a fan of satire (especially satire which humanizes both sides of a cultural argument). I also live in The US and have watched all six episodes of”Little Mosque on The Prairie through You Tube. Personally I find the show entertaining and educational.
All religions have their fundamentalists. In the case of the Islamic fundamentalist Babar in the show, he reminds me of my uncle who is a fundamentalist christian. Their hearts are in the right place albeit maybe a bit misguided but still it shows Muslims as people as well who have to deal with the same issues all of us have to. In the same clip you mentioned where he says his daughter looks like a protistant, every parent regardless of religion has to deal with teen fashions and I knwo quite a few christian fathers who have wrestled with that very issue. In the post 9-11 world we need to have some understanding of both sides of the issue and also realize that not every Muslim is going to blow us up. At the same time not every christian is going to try to convert everyone.
I don’t believe that this show is making fun of either religion. It is making fun of how some interpret those religions and the search for middle ground within and without those respective religious communities.

The author clearly stated that the problem is not with making fun about our cultural differences but with using The Name of Jesus that one of you already mentined is the name of God for Christians in a comedy context and in such a way to suggest that He doesn’t exists while at the foundation of Christian faith is the fact that He lives and maintains very real contact with His followers.
She doesn’t seem to have anything against Muslims at all.

That’s their point of view but the main issue here is,why Muslims don’t think it is all right to use the image or name of their prophet in cartoon or other type of comedy context but think it is o.k to do so with the name of Jesus, knowing He is Holy to Christians?
Building bridges is about respect going both ways, it is not a one way street, this is the main point of this article.

Only Muslims today actually follow Jesus(pbuh) and his true teachings. Their way of life is much more in tune with the way of life Jesus practiced than any of the modern day Christians.In the Quraan no woman is given more attention than Mary (Mariam) receives the most attention of any woman mentioned in the Quran even though all the Prophets with the exception of Adam had mothers. Of the Quraan’s 114 chapters she is among the eight people who have a chapter named after them. The nineteenth chapter of the Quran is named after her Mariam. Mariam means Mary in Arabic. The third chapter in the Quraan is named after her father Imran. Chapters Mariam and Imran are among the most beautiful chapters in the Quraan & Mariam (pbuh) is the only woman specifically named in the Quraan

I extremely doubt it represents how muslims think of christians.. and being a very religious person I really call f or such conduct not to be tolerate by any religion followers and towards any.. It is very irritating to hear muslims like myself would do that.. islam’s regard to jesus is the same as it is to mohammed..

Dear “Muslim” reader – If that were true then you would not be beating your wives, raping them, or treating them as slaves. Jesus reached out to the women, even the prostitutes, and said let him without sin cast the first stone… and yet you still stone and kill. You need to read the words and actions of Jesus before professing that Muslims are following his teachings. That sir (or madam) is simply untrue.

I hope by now you saw a number of episodes, and saw how Little Mosque in no way attacked Christianity, but rather was simply a good comedy, that found humor in life and many religions, including Islam.

Dear “Samara Latent”,
All religions have idiots among them. I am sure you could find countless people amongst all religions that beat their wives, rape their wives and treat them as slaves. The only reason you know about these few idiots is because of all the media attention they have been receiving these last few years.
You should watch the show. I’m sure it’s Muslims that should have something to say about this show, religion is not something that should be treated as a comical subject.

I have nothing against this show or against Muslims. What I wanted to share is that just as we shouldn’t make fun of Islam’s prophet Mohhamed, Muslims should not use the name of Jesus in a comedy context. Most Muslims I know have a great respect for my faith; it is the producers of this show who made a mistake by including in it a joke about Jesus. Otherwise, the show is a grat idea in my opinion.

Basically, Jewish, Christian, Islam is the brothers. Let us tolerate one another, and life harmony to build a better world. Too many people are dying simply because they do not understand each other and an open minds one and other.
