Sometimes It’s Cooler to be a Dork
Sometimes when people are having fun they look like a dork. Too many people think it is cool to ruin the good times people are having by pointing out the fact that they are looking like a dork. Sometimes being a dork is cooler than being cool.
Currently there seems to be a societal emphasis on being cool. I am not talking about being cool in The Beat sense, which may have actually been cool. I am talking about being cool in the sense that has been force fed to us world wide by the mass media over the past few decades. I am referring to that sense that we must walk about in the latest fashions with the latest gadgets with out a hair out of place act bored and snubbing our noses at those who are actually trying to live and have a good time. That sense that we have been burdened with that makes us think that if we let our guards down and just live and let live that we will look like a dork.

The Author Looking Like a Dork and Having Fun.
We have all been faced with those around us reprimanding us for being a dork and looking stupid when we are just living and enjoying ourselves. Many of us are also guilty of the harassment of others in this way when they have those moments where they are just living and having fun. We all have had the experience of just being in the moment and having fun without regard for the way we look. Sometimes when that happens no one is around to spoil it by being a Nazi of Cool, while other times our good time is ruined in short order by one of those who take it upon themselves to remind us that we are looking like a dork and that looking like a dork is not cool.

The Author Still Having Fun and Looking Even More Like a Dork as He Travels on The Zip Line.
When I refer to being a dork I am not writing about the times when people are doing things that may harm or endanger others either physically or emotionally. I am pointing to those times when someone is just having fun and not hurting another soul while doing it, but at the same time they are looking like a dork because of the standards that have arisen within our world as to what is considered to be cool. This dork behavior that I am referring to is acceptable behavior in our world. It is just not considered to be cool behavior by those who think they own the concept of cool. Truly being in the moment and having fun in that moment and looking cool by those ludicrous standards that have been laid down in the collective societies of Planet Earth at this point in history are polar opposites.
I purpose that this false sense of cool that most likely the product of media brainwashing combined with fragile self esteems of the people that buy into it needs to be addressed and stopped at all levels of society. We need to stop this in our homes, workplaces, institutions of learning, and in the media. We need to have daily dork sessions in the same way that many places have daily exercise sessions. In addition to jumping jacks and running in place we could have make funny faces for five minutes exercises. Families could have dress up silly nights to watch television. However, the best thing would be that each and every one of us needs to do is when someone, be it a stranger, a friend, or a family member, is looking like a dork and enjoying themselves just let them go with it or join in and stop being the Gestapo of Cool by making fun of them.
Did I mention where I was? It was Sky Trek Aventure Park in British Columbia, Canada, in August 2010.

Its your right to have fun in the way you enjoy. Just give a deaf ear to the comments of others and enjoy your time being a dork.

A dork is a person who looks silly, or dopey, not like a clown, but somewhat like a nerd…
