Spent Youth

Trials and Tribulations of the Youth Drinking Culture.

Each weekend they line up with the knowledge of ‘tonight Im going to get trashed’ and each weekend they do. What has come of the youth of today? Do I sound old? For I am not. What makes the younger generation believe that what they are doing each and every weekend is so hip and so right? Is it a culture that we have brought upon them, unknowingly? I cringe upon seeing attractive young women staggering around the streets half naked, dress slipped off their shoulder, smudged make up, yelling and stumbling thinking they look so amazingly in control and in with the in crowd, for if only they could see a video of themselves realise just how sordid they actually look. And young men, siding each other up, swaying over young women, droning on as if the world should be interested in the drivle they have to say, when no one is remotely interested.

Everything in moderation they say. So when is enough, when is too much and when is far too much? How do these young bodies cope with the enormous amounts of pure alcohol, because having started drinking at an early age the ‘alco-pops’ are no longer sustainable, to have the best night out ever. Bottles and bottles of straight spirits are consumed each night. What is to become of their organs in the future? Will we as ‘the older generation’ be having to mop up after them and support them with liver damage or donate kidneys when on their medical file it states ‘ kidney failure’?

I am at a loss for words as to the solution to this almighty problem. Raising the drinking age will not stop the ‘already drinking’, they will still get it. Abolishment? Why should everyone suffer for those who can’t control their limits?

I am by no means ‘the fun police’ and out to kill the buzz but a concerned citizen, wife and mother. Where will this lead? What is going to be available out there for the next generation? What age will they be lining up for the weekend trashing? Will there even be a ‘next generation’ or is this it!
