The Five Most Bizarre Rituals in the World

Here are some of the most bizarre rituals you can ever see in the world. They are taken from different religious practices in the early and modern times.

For most religions, rituals are very important because it is the way that we are able to appease angry gods and goddesses, but these ones are just so unusual.

1. Male Initiation

You may have heard about this group wherein the younger males are supposed to be raped by a male elder to be known as a grown up man’. Many conservative groups have questioned this ritual since it promotes homo sexuality, but the leader answered these by saying that it’s not about the gender or the sexuality of the person, but on how they are able to please their gods and goddesses.

2. Blood Drinking

It can be that Dracula really lives since there are people who drink blood for their ritual. We hear that there’s a place in Asia that drink the blood of Cobra, but don’t you know that there is this group that drinks the blood of a human, a young girl or lady being offered to the gods and goddesses. After drinking the blood, they will further dismember the body into parts and burn it.

3. Cleansing by fire

For those who are known to be witches are burnt to die, but actually there’s also a group of people who believed that it is the way their souls are cleansed. For them, the act of killing themselves is a heroic deed and is therefore recognized. Inside the Catholic faith, there were many notable people who were burned because of the accusation that they were witched and one of them is Joan of Arc. It is most likely that those people who believe this one to be ritual feel that this is also the way to salvation.

4. Firer walking

Although it already became a fun game for others, for ancient civilization it’s not. In the past, the people let the gods and goddesses participate. They believe that the only way of knowing whether a person is really guilty of the crime by fire walking. It is because they believe that if the person is really innocent then the gods should protect him or her.

5. Sitting While on The State Of Delivery

It is popular in the early days of nursing history in the Philippines that pregnant women during the time of delivery should sit down. It is to give luck to the mother, child and the entire family. Personally, I do not really know the true meaning of the ritual but since rituals are suppose to bring good luck then I stick to it.

They are just few of the most unusual rituals in the world. I hope you liked them. God Bless You All!

    Ace,
When you said, “Bizarre,” You sure knew what you were talking about! The first one is as bizarre as anyone can get. I’ve heard about Fire Walking. I’ve got a friend that can Fire walk. I haven’t seen him since he moved to Tennessee in the eighties, but he writes quite often. I think this is your best article yet Ace. Very interesting. Keep up the great work!

Bizarre for sure.. and what is really sad is that some are not even religious rituals, but the leaders are telling the followers that they are simply so they can get away with it.

I love the fruit in the cup of blood, lol!

In most ancient societies a handful of older women in each village would help deliver babies. Egyptians commonly gave birth squatting or kneeling over two birthing bricks or on a brick birthing stool, a forerunner to the birthing stools still popular today. Birthing bricks and stools were decorated with hieroglyphic inscriptions of the owner and painted scenes of the mother, baby, and goddesses.
Greek and Roman women also used birthing stools. In many other cultures of the time, women gave birth in an upright position, using a tree, a pole or another person for support.
Victorian principles of purity and modesty ruled supreme, with doctors encouraged to work by touch alone. Women most commonly gave birth in the Sims position: lying on the left side of the body with knees bent up. This position prevented the doctor and patient from seeing each other, so helping to preserve the mother’s dignity.

The above was taken from an article on “Gurgle.com” called a History Of Childbirth, I did not see the name of the author so I can not give that person credit.

Most woman know that the only reason we give birth lying down is for the convience of the doctor.

To add to Deborah’s comment, many women around the world today deliver in a seated or squatting position – which is actually among the most physiologically effective and natural positions for childbirth (much better than lying on your back with your legs up in the air). You can google it. I definitely wouldn’t classify it as a bizarre ritual.
