21 December 2012 marks the day after the end of the Mayan Long Count Calendar, but did they truly believe that this marks the end of the world as we know it?

Many, perhaps through media hype and the help of many other doomsday believers, think that they did. But what is the real truth behind the Mayans, their knowledge of the past, their ability to predict future events, and how their writings relate to what is happening in our world today?

The world is changing, of that there is no doubt, and perhaps more rapidly than we ever imagined possible. Global temperatures are rising, glaciers are collapsing, ice-caps are melting and sea levels are rising. Extreme weather and seismic events seem to be on the increase. Scientists the world over are trying to fathom what this means for us all, and just how quickly and significantly we can expect these changes to affect our planet.

Amongst many predictions of the end of the world, one of the most popular of our day is that supposedly foretold by the Mayans, a civilisation that existed in Central America from approximately 2600 BCE (Before the Christian Era (traditionally BC)) to around 1450 CE (Current Era (traditionally AD)).

The basis for the belief of this prediction is the understanding that the current Mayan b’ak’tun, or ‘creation’ in the Long Count Calendar ends on a date equivalent in our current calendar to 20 December 2012, thus the date of 21 December 2012 is, in some spheres, being considered as the end of the world as we know it and the beginning of a new ‘creation’.

The Mayan Long Count Calendar, a calendar used not only by the Mayans but by other mesoamerican civilisations, is based on the Mayan belief that they were living in the ‘fourth world’ or ‘fourth creation’. It is generally accepted that the Mayans believed that their gods had created the world three times before, and each creation had failed. The ‘fourth world’ or ‘fourth creation’ was successful, and this is the world into which man was placed.

Contrary to what seems to be increasingly accepted as fact, there is no evidence that the Mayans believed that the end of this b’ak’tun would mean the end of the world. Rather, in the rare and few texts and inscriptions that remain from the height of the Mayan civilisation, notably the ‘Dresden Codex’ which details much of their study of astronomy, there is no ‘prediction’ as such at all.

It seems that our society’s love for mysticism and the unexplained has created this prediction themselves through mistranslation, media hype, linking the Mayan dates with other mythical predictions such as the supposed predictions of Nostradamus, themselves mistranslated, undated, generalised and so full of questions and symbolism as to leave them completely at the mercy of each and every reader’s individual interpretation.

Another link made, is to the arrival of Planet X or ‘Nibiru’, a hitherto unknown planet, that will affect the magnetic poles of Earth, causing catastrophic seismic upheaval, shifting of continents and unimaginable tsunamis as the Earth slows to a halt and begins spinning again in the other direction. Some may say ‘laughably’ the ‘Nibiru’ prediction comes from an individual who believes that she is ‘contacted’ by extra-terrestrials through an implant in her brain, and that she was told of ‘Nibiru’ by these extra-terrestrials. The originally predicted date of 2003 came and went, and the myth has now been picked up by 2012 doomsdayers and linked, completely unrelated, to the December 2012 date.

Planetary scientists and astronomers across the world say there is absolutely no evidence to support the prediction of ‘Nibiru’ at all.

As for the Mayans and the date of the end of their current b’ak’tun, who really knows, but it should be noted too that the Mayans made predictions for events occurring after this date also. The curator of Latin American Art and Archaeology at the Florida Museum of Natural History has said that there is no record or knowledge that the Mayans would think that the end of the world would come in 2012.

Sandra Noble of the Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies in Crystal River, Florida would seem to agree. She has said that for the Mayans, it was a huge celebration to make it to the end of a cycle, and to quote 21 December 2012 as doomsday is a complete fabrication, and simply a chance for lots of people to cash in on public willingness to accept predictions without any proof.

The Mayans and Nostradamus, according to many scholars the world over, did NOT predict the end of the world in December 2012, or more specifically on 21 December 2012. Could it be though, through completely misguided "belief" that they did, and through media "hype" for the story, knowing how humanity seems to love mysticism and the unknown, that they have, unwittingly, set the stage for bringing about the end of the world as we know it?

Stick with me here, as however outlandish this theory might first appear to you, it is certainly no more outlandish than a plagiaristic Nostradamus or a fallen civilisation of people, however bright or knowledgeable they may have been, being able to pinpoint the time and date of the end of the world many hundreds of years before the event.

There is no proof, anywhere, that either the Mayans or Nostradamus have correctly identified the date or time of the end of the world. Regardless of this, the myth that they have, through the media, word of mouth, and our old friend the internet, has woven itself into the ‘belief’ of so many, and as the supposed date draws near, continues to put question marks into the lives of many new followers, day on day, from the masses that find it easy to believe without proof.

So, as we enter 2012, and the myth is perpetuated by those that ‘fear’ or ‘believe’ the so-called prophecies, an entire society is at risk of ‘believing’ that these unproven prophecies are going to come true. An entire society, on the basis of nothing more than ignorance and following other ‘believers’ begins to prepare for what they think are going to be the end times ahead.

Others, those that are perhaps unsure themselves quite what to believe, watch as these believers, one by one, begin to stockpile food, or bottled water. It may begin as a laughing ‘just in case’ measure, but more will follow. As the date draws closer still, still more begin to stockpile, ‘just in case’. And so, as the myth itself breeds, so does the fear and the ‘just in case’ attitude.

Imagine how you yourself feel about these predictions right at this very moment. Have you researched, or have you blindly believed what the media or your friends and family have told you? Perhaps you’re on the fence and a ‘just in caser’? You’re not alone.

So, more weeks and months go by, and so are born new believers in the prophecies and just as damaging, the just-in-casers. They stockpile, they induce question and possibly panic into others, and as the day itself draws near, so the panic becomes widespread. Fill that petrol tank ‘just in case’, get a months worth of food and water ‘just in case’.

Our fast moving world is not geared to provide for its people in such future terms, not even months into the future. Our shops and supermarkets are geared to support us on an ongoing daily basis, not to supply a society of the fearful and unsure who are buying a months worth of supplies at a time, just in case.

The shop shelves begin to empty, and cannot be replenished in time, and the news spreads. Yet more people panic and run to the shops, not because of the fear of the prophecy myth, but because they simply fear now that they themselves will not have any food because of the emptying shelves.

Small scale arguments over the last can of beans erupt quickly into life threatening confrontation when people start to wonder where the next one will come from. Riots and panic spread from such humble beginnings, and chaos ensues. Civil unrest, looting, roads gridlocked with people trying to reach shops, petrol stations, loved ones.

The civil authorities cannot cope as the panic buying and unrest spreads so quickly, even the army themselves, decimated from desertions of their own ranks worried for their futures, cannot control the outbreak of unrest and the rioting. Transport infrastructure fails as gridlocked roads prevent fuel and food stuffs reaching their destinations…..and the panic deepens amongst an entire society as it begins to buckle and reduce itself to an animalistic, survival approach.

Too outlandish I hear you cry? Just ask yourself please, what you believe right now, and what you’ll be doing in the weeks leading up to December 2012, and just what you would do faced with the possibility that your food cupboards may be empty by the end of the week, and you’re unable to buy more food, anywhere.

Please, do some research. Don’t dismiss me, or blindly believe what anyone else says with no proof? Use your heads, and THINK about what you believe before it’s too late, or, as the title of this piece suggests, poor old Nostradamus and the Mayans may well have unwittingly, through the ignorance of the masses, CREATED the end of the world as we know it.

What predictions did the great Nostradamus make for 2012?

I’m afraid, that it is human nature and its love of mysticism and seeking explanation for the unknown or for that which we fear, that drives the majority of Nostradamus believers to relate his verses to world events throughout history and to attribute them to possible future events.

Imagine if you will, that Nostradamus, as with many of today’s so-called mediums or psychics, played on that same need in human nature. People are not so very different today than they were in Nostradamus’s time after all.

It is largely believed by scholars the world over, that Nostradamus, in his collection ‘Les Propheties’ wrote quatrains, undated, unspecific, originally in a mix of French and Latin and some say disguised and coded into fanciful poetry, either to avoid being labelled a heretic, or perhaps more likely, to disguise his own plagiarism, a practice much more easily executed in his time than it is today. Was Nostradamus just an early medium of his time, playing on and selling to the weakness of a portion of society that needed something more than fact?

None of the so-called prophecies of Nostradamus have ever been proved to relate to any world events over history in more than a fleeting way. They are so incredibly generalised, vague, shrouded in symbolism and at their very basis, likely very poorly translated from the originals in the first place, as to be not so much prophecies, as “let’s fit them to whichever event we see fit, AFTER the event” because it adds to the mysticism, and we love mysticism don’t we?

The Internet is awash with ‘proof’ that Nostradamus predicts a comet in the skies in 2012 which will affect the gravitation of the Earth, and result in apocalyptic destruction on a global scale. Yet, the references to such seem to be plucked out of his hundreds of prophecies, undated and unspecific, and no real reason given as to why they supposedly relate to 2012. Maybe it is our culture that is linking these to other myths such as Nibiru, Planet X, the Mayan long count calendar and so on.

Whatever Nostradamus intended, let’s just hope that the belief and fear that popular culture has built up around these unproved, loose and possibly downright made-up prophecies doesn’t itself lead to the demise of society as we know it. If you’re interested to read further, then please take a look at my article, http://socyberty.com/paranormal/nostradamus-and-the-mayans-unwitting-creators-of-the-end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it-or-21-december-2012-the-greatest-myth-on-earth/

I wrote a piece yesterday (please click the link here- (http://socyberty.com/issues/ben-bernacke-will-devalue-the-dollar-40-like-fdr-did/)).
This piece referred to a speech FED Chairman Ben Bernancke in 2002 where he has done everything he said he would do if he were confronted with a Great Depression. Since Bernacke is going to devalue the currency like FDR did in 1933-4, it would follow that the price of gold will skyrocket. 3,000 an ounce is conservative for the price of gold next year.

I continued to listen to a DVD by Lindsey Williams which is titled “2012- The Beginning of the End.” He has access to global elitists who are telling him what will happen in the world before it happens because they have everything planned out up to five years in advance. FDR ruined the value of the dollar vis a vis gold in 1933 when he seized the gold. The price of gold went from $20 an ounce to $35 an ounce which devalued the dollar and spending power of the depressed Americans about 40%.

It is clear that we are still showing the symptoms of a depression, recession, or sluggish recovery, whatever you want to call it. The economy is not doing well. Bernacke does not buy the spin in the liberal media that we are in happy days again. He is doing everything he said he would do in a 2002 speech if he were confronted with a Great Depression II. Bernacke’s premise is that deflation is bad and must be avoided at all costs. So he will do everything to prevent this, which includes destroying the dollar. If Bernacke does destroy the dollar with his printing money and zero interest rates, inflation will result and the price of gold will have to increase; it is inevitable and unavoidable. The price of gold rising from about $300 in 2002 to about $1700 an ounce can be a metaphor to the dollar having a fever. This fever because of printing money will only cause the gold price in the long term to go higher and higher. When a fever gets to a certain level, the patient will die. The patient is the dollar. $1700 an ounce gold is a 104 degree fever. The fever is high, but can come down. With $3000 an ounce gold, I fear that the fever will kill the dollar.

Paper money and paper assets are worth the paper that they are written on commented Mr. Williams in his DVD’s. Mr. Williams claims to have been with the eliteist for 35 years and his credibility seems good. I certainly believe that a few men can control everything in the world if they stay under the radar. We have to oppose those that will destroy the dollar or be prepared for it.

Alternate Realities: Future Fictional Predictions for the Year 2012.

1) Newt Gingrich wins the republican nomination for president. The 2012 will be one of the dirtiest in human history. Unfortunately for Newt, most of the mud will be the flung at him. And it will stick. Gingrich gains 1% of the popular vote on Election Day. Ron Paul, running as an independent gets 5%. Various and sundry other nuts and flakes and end of the world candidates would get 5% if all the votes that were cast in their general direction were combined.

Obama wins with 70% of the popular vote. A lot of votes went missing. Conspiracy theorists claim that Obama rigged the election. It turns out that 53% of the voting age public stayed away from the polls.

The first thing Obama does is to make the price of electricity skyrocket. Obama first promised to do this when he was a senator so he is just keeping a promise. Obama makes the price of domestic energy higher by opening a carbon trading brokerage run by the government and also by taxing every form of domestic energy.

The United States enters the greatest depression of our history. Obama’s reaction is to raise taxes on every employer in the nation and give the proceeds to government unions and illegal aliens.

The depression deepens. Americans start going around the carbon trading markets and instead buying their energy off the black market. In addition, Obama keeps another promise by buy energy from Brazil with federal funds and giving it to the poor.

The economy goes from depression to recession. Obama and the democrats are booted out of office at the next elections.

2) California goes bankrupt from public employee and government unions pensions and general greed. Demagogues claim that the republicans destroyed California’s economy by breathing or something.

The electorate says: A pox on both your houses.

A gay party arises with a slate of gay only candidates. California becomes the first state in the union to send an entirely gay delegation to Washington DC. The governor of the state and the majority of the legislature of California will be gay. Most mayors will be gay as well.

3) A bomb goes off at Ground Zero in New York. After the smoke clears, all buildings are intact and no people are harmed. It turned out that the sonic effects of the blast where caused by shaking technology called thumpers which can shake buildings at resonant frequencies.

In addition, the terrorists have drenched down town New York city in a mist containing pigs blood that has saturated almost all the buildings.

An announcement from a group calling itself the People’s Pork Protectorate declares that New York is now under their protection. When some of their members show up in Times Square wearing pig costumes, they are surrounded and beaten to death. Thus ends the People’s Pork Protectorate.

4) Telepathic trees

Scientists will learn how to communicate with trees and plants. Moreover, scientists will be able to wire transmitters directly into the nervous systems of animals.

All of this type of non-human communication will lead to more accurate predictions of earthquakes, tsunamis and other natural disasters. Animals and even plants can detect most natural disasters far in advance of when people can. Earthquake prediction will become 60% accurate for as many as ten days before the event and 99% accurate for periods of hours before the earthquake.

5) Animal doctors

Doctors are able to take the same technology that was developed to have animals predict earthquakes to enable plants and animals predict serious diseases. It is already suspected that some dogs can actually smell cancer. The senses will be honed and harnessed and all serious human illnesses will be caught and cured at the earliest possible stage.

6) The republicans take advantage of the surge of conservative black candidates running for office. For the first time in its history, South Dakota sends an entirely black delegation to congress. The South Dakota state legislature, governorship and most majors will be black as well.

Hyper Jake Answers: Who is the Modern Day Chiron?

A lot of people know Chiron from the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, but someone asks: Who is the modern day Chiron?

(image link)

That question wasn’t so complex, was it? The simple answer: Firenze, the centaur from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, who becomes a teacher in the Hogwarts: School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. We first see Firenze near the end of the first book Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Harry and his friends see him in the Forbidden Forest.

Another question is: Who would win in a duel? Chiron or Firenze?

Well, they’re both centaurs, but I’m going to be biased and vote for Firenze because I just love the Harry Potter series more than the Percy Jackson and the Olympian. Do you know that the word “Firenze” is actually a name of the famous capital city of the Italian region Tuscany?

With December 21, 2012 less than two years away, predictions for the end of the world could spell its own disaster for prisons around the globe.

Prison Governors around the world are secretly gearing up for possible riots when December, 2012 approaches.

Concerns over the “End of Days” hysteria that appears to be gaining popularity amongst some inmates could escalate into a full blown riot in prisons across the globe.

For many people the events depicted for 2012 certainly spell doom and gloom. December 21st, 2012 is less than two years away and for millions across the globe it is a date in their diaries that injects fear.

With Mayan prophecies, Nostradamus Quatrains, Factual Television broadcasts on the subject, Hollywood disaster movies, aliens invading in 2012 and Biblical tales of pending disaster for mankind, it is no wonder that citizens of the world cannot but shudder at what could transpire when that date arrives. The fact that science backs some of this up with a potential solar storm hitting our planet backs all this concern up to some degree.

The same goes for those in locked away in prisons as inmates, many of whom seek religious beliefs as forms of comfort, have heard of the 2012 predictions.

“It is something that could fuel potential carnage and hysteria amongst inmates”, claims one source who wishes to remain anonymous. “Many inmates talk about the 2012 predictions and the end of the world. For many it is a topic of humour, for others they take it all seriously – some to the point of trying to spread fear amongst other inmates.”

So, with the “End of the World” date less than two years away, the chance prisoners could use such a date as an excuse to riot is a distinct possibility and one that some workers at prisons are starting to take seriously.

“All it takes is one person to spark off a domino effect regarding 2012 by convincing other inmates the end of the world is coming and they are locked away from their families and can do nothing to save them,” claims the insider. “People can quickly divide and when separated from the outside world and loved ones, fear and anger takes over. It could trigger a potential war zone in a prison.”

A hiker from Brazil claims he uncovered stone tablets with dire warnings of 2012...

Reports are circulating that a hiker from Brazil has uncovered tablet stones with ancient Mayan predictions for the 2012 prophecy.

Jonathon Stone, aged 47 is an engineer and hiker and a man who claims to have made a startling discovery whilst on vacation in the Andes mountains.

According to the reclusive man, he was out hiking high up in the Andes when he came across several caves hidden amongst foliage. “I needed to rest,” claims Stone, “And came across a ledge with several caves hidden behind some dense bush.”

The man then took shelter in the caves as winds picked up. It was once inside he came across several “odd looking stones”, which according to the engineer, resembled stone “tablets”.

“I am also a keen mathematician and I have extensive self studies in Egyptian hieroglyphics. I noticed many markings on the stones and I decided to decipher them as best I could.”

Stone tablets similar to the above were meant to be discovered by the hiker.

The man stayed almost 36 hours and lived off his rations whilst he scribbled down the markings. Stone was astonished to notice that the markings gave dire predictions for the coming year of 2012.

“I saw that the markings were of ancient Mayan origin,” he states. “It was several warnings on three tablets. On one tablet alone the markings predicted what appeared to be solar storms, earthquakes, volcanoes and hurricanes.”

Stone was amazed at the other two tablets. “The second tablet foretold of wars, disease and a power rising from the sea. It did not make it very clear what this power was, other than it threatened mankind. Armies would rise against this awesome power from around the world.”

Is this the end of our world as we know it?

If it wasn’t to get any worse, the third made Stone shudder. “It foretold a magnetic shift in the earth and ice caps melting creating great floods. What armies were left in the world had defeated the power in the sea only to be faced with a great fire and power from the heavens. “

Is this a dreaded meteor impact or further still, an alien invasion?

Whatever it was Stone fell asleep.

His story became even stranger than fiction when he said he awoke “some miles away” from the mountains and in a complete different location.

“I fear I will never discover those caves again. But what I saw has opened my eyes to what may lie ahead for mankind. “

Whatever our thoughts, many people around the world claim to have foreseen dire events unfolding for the year 2012.

The question remains: Is this just another hoax or is there some truth in stories such as those told by people like Johnathon Stone…?

A Woman living in a small village in Leicestershire, United Kingdom claims she was abducted by aliens and given warnings for a dire future for mankind after being lured into a local wood by an anoymous contact from Facebook.

Maria Rodriguez, aged 38 and divorced claims a “mysterious” email from an anonymous contact on the popular social networking site Face-book was a lure in which to be abducted by beings from another world.

Rodriguez claims the incident took place at the beginning of June, 2009 whilst on the look out for her cheating boyfriend, Richard Marx, 42.

“I was using my Face-book one night”, Rodriguez states,”when I received an email from someone with a false identity.” The woman claims the email was informing her that her boyfriend of the past 3 years was meeting a fellow work colleague at a local lover spot in woodlands close to the village where Rodriguez lived.

“I was devastated”, claims the abductee. “All I could think of was that my boyfriend was deceiving me. I was livid!”

Maria went to the location late one night in June on the details of the alleged tip off from her Face-book email. Upon arriving Maria claims he boyfriend was no where to be seen. But in actual fact “something” otherworldly was lying in wait.

“It was terrifying”, says Rodriguez. “Richard was not there. My mobile phone had no connection and it was really dark and frightening.”

Strange Noises

Apparently the woman then states that she heard a “strange whirring noise” like an electric egg whisk or sexual toy. “It just didn’t sound like the noise was natural, more battery operated. I started to panic.”

Lights

Then the woman claims she was blinded by a bright light and that is all she remembers.

Found Unconscious

Maria was later discovered by a passing man walking his dog at approximately 5.30am. The man, who wishes to remain anonymous through fear of ridicule, states the woman was lying face down and naked. “I thought I had discovered a body, beautifully shaped as it was”, he says. “I managed to bring the woman round and she had little bruises all over her. I thought she had been attacked or sexually assaulted.”

Maria refused hospital treatment or involving the local police. However, she started having nightmares and headaches and decided to attend a Private psychiatrist for answers. “Counselling didn’t work”, she says so I decided to use my savings and employ a psychiatrist in the local area.

Doctor Mindmee Imanuts, a Russian psychiatrist now living in Leicestershire for the past twenty years, looked into Maria’s condition. “It was extremely bizarre. The woman showed no signs of paranoid delusion or any other psychiatric illness. I did have a friend who specialised in hypnotherapy so I contact her for assistance.”

Undergoing hypnosis, Maria recalled events to Hypnotherapist Lisa Seeit. What Maria spoke of whilst under the spell of Lisa Seeit was extremely disturbing.

“Maria stated she had been gone for a total thirteen days and alien beings had performed numerous medical and psychic experiments on Maria.”

Maria, whilst conscious, can only recall tiny fragments and certainly does not remember being missing for such a length of time.

“Whilst under hypnotherapy I remember aliens, similar to those in the X-Files (greys) telling me that the world would soon end in 2012 and that a secret society of undercover aliens are parading themselves about as innocent Face-book citizens”, she states. “I was subjected to numerous sexual experiments and even mated with a couple of them. It was humiliating but the most disturbing was their future visions of the world in three years time. We had been infiltrated by aliens on Face-book and My Space”.

Aliens on Face-book?

Whilst totally bizarre, the events certainly tally with predictions made by various prophets about the coming year 2012 where tragic events would plaque our planet. “I do not understand it all”, Maria goes on to state,”But I was relieved my boyfriend was not cheating.”

Apparently that evening, Maria’s boyfriend had arranged to collect her from a party at a friends house some miles away but Maria never shown. According to sources at the party, Maria left early “quite drunk and talking about her favourite TV Show, Star Trek“.

So we have a major feature film and tons of debates going on about what is really going to happen come December 21st, 2012. Is it really going to be the end of mankind as we know it?

Type in 2012 on the Internet search engine and you will be flooded with speculation as to what is going to occur. Worse still many opinions and predictions foretell the end of mankind or some other disaster facing us all.

From the Mayan Prophecies through to somewhat inconclusive predictions from Nostradamus himself, the year 2012 is rapidly approaching. Predictions of asteroids hitting the Earth and other natural disasters are numerous as are those of a nuclear holocaust or deadly solar storms besieging the planet. As frightening as they sound one has to wonder on some predicted events is there scientific basis behind such rumours?

The scientific community appears split about all this. Many astronomers and scientists envision a major solar storm in 2012 and with building tensions around the world, combined with economic ruin abound, the chances of a major conflict looks greater than ever. Our planet is being drained of natural resources. our ozone layer is becoming thinner. Our magnetic poles are showing distinct signs of reversal and famine still exists in the world. Green house effects are melting our polar regions and more deadly strains of viruses are finding their way quickly around the planet.

But what about our past? Does this offer real clues to our future? In a word it is a yes. Historians and Philosophers combine with those with strong religious beliefs to cast a wary and frightening future for us. Much has been written in magazines or documented on television shows. The fever is gaining and the panic starting to grow amongst thousands if not millions of us as this “dark year” approaches.

How does religion stand on this? Well just read The Bible and the Book of Revelation if ever you want scaring out of your wits. Other religions predict a dire future for man. But all hint at the End of days coming soon and this is vigorously backed up by events that have plagued us both past and present.

So what do we do? Do we sit out and wait or do we dismiss such predictions and warnings as the product of religious scaremongers and crazy scientists? Or do we take heed and observe our future with open eyes and an even more open mind?

If such events are coming, what can we as a race do about it? We have technology and we are able to sit around a table and discuss our problems with an intelligent voice. Or is our world that busy with its own greed for power that we treat such warnings with a hint of laughter?

The jury is out and will be out for some months to come. But my guess is that as 2012 quickly approaches, more and more people will start to take a sneaky, if not curious or fearful look over their shoulders. The irony of our future still rests in our present.

It is after all, just a matter of time before we find out.
