Lily uses repetition to get her point across. In paragraph two, Lily repeats the phrase ‘I know for a fact’ five times. This shows that she knows what she is talking about. She knows what teachers do behind the scenes and that is definitely not just to teach a class for a period or two each day. No, they also help their students in areas they are unsure of and they must also work overtime to prepare the materials for the next day.

Lily uses anecdotes in this letter. She talks about how all her teachers are willing to help her out and her close relationship with her teachers. The student-teacher relationships are so close that they can be called friends. Through her own personal stories, Lily was able to show the readers how important teachers are to their students.

In the last paragraph, Lily indirectly blames the officials who decide teachers’ wages. She doesn’t blame the teachers who aren’t teaching their classes and are on strike. She agrees with the teachers in that they should receive higher pay for what their hard work.

Overall, I think Lily’s letter to The Age is very persuasive and can sway readers into supports for teachers.

So what is this, are we playing some politics ourselves or what? First we say boo, bad call, etc on Obama’s decision saying were not voting again for a Democratic and so on. But that seems to be a false statement because CNN has proven on a recent survey 50% have said they approve Obama. 

What gets me personally irritated is when people at school, work, or any where say Obama stinks, this that and that and so forth, but a couple months later its like the complete opposite. So for those of you that are strong republic I wouldn’t be let down by this, because in another month or so it will change, change, and change till decision time is upon the citizens. So you all have less than 10 months from now to vote and you better be ready to face the consequences each candidate brings and ultimately the winners. 

One might ask themselves why every move Obama makes is the wrong move for America, well, there is an election coming up and perhaps, he is guiding folks the way he wants them to be guided.  if Obama decides to take on the Catholic Church, he does it to the conservative candidate will stand up and rally folks around the constitution.  The problem is, the true conservative cannot win over the sitting President.  Ok, so, here we are.  America now rallies around a man who cannot possibly win in 2012.  Played like a violin. Obama is pushing Americans buttons and while some say he doesn’t know what he is doing, I beg to differ.  The man is playing America, using child psychology on its people, and it is working. 

Obama has no regard for America’s Constitution, or the American people.  He loves Europe, and wants to see America head back to the days of yore.  He believes that government shall be caregiver to  feed them what they deserve, and give a weekly allowance that he thinks is fit.  He hates the idea of being President, but loves the idea of becoming King someday.  He, is using the ways of divide and conquer, via the old Robin Hood theory of Rob from the rich and give to the poor.  He does not think people are smart by a long shot, after all, he learned from the best, Chicago politicians, mad bombers, and radical thinkers.  Yes, Obama knows exactly what he is doing and unless America starts to stand up for herself, no one else will.

Obama has lefty Hollywood on his side along with, communists, socialist thinkers, and un molded minds, meaning the youth.  He needs someone running against him who will surely lose against him.  If he gets four more years, then he will be crowned, and like a Castro, will never leave his throne.  Never listen to what Obamticsa has to say, always watch his actions, they do speak volumes.

Coming in at number 5 is a promise ring.  Now this is very important because you must be careful when giving AND when receiving a promise ring.  When giving be careful to hide the box as well as you can and when receiving when you see the box for the first time whether you are snooping or when he gives it to you do NOT worry about an early proposal.  Have faith in your man!  But all kidding aside this is a great way to show her you love her with just taking a small step in your relationship.

It is a complete shock to me that sexy lingerie has come in at number 4.  Men, I am surprised that this is not number 1!  Good news is though that the lingerie that was bought has been on the classy caliber and not of the sleazy.

Sitting in the middle or our top five comfortably at number 3 is the classic “heart pendent.”  It is a tough economy out there and unfortunately we need to watch our budget all year round so the heart pendent can be the way to go.  They come in many different styles, sizes and most important prices.

I think that number 1 and number 2 seem to be one gift.  Technically they are 2 but it’s my article so I am merging them and call it “number owo”.  Never and I mean NEVER can a man go wrong with a box of chocolates and red roses!  The ultimate gift on Valentine’s Day!

Coming in at the #5 is Cologne.  A true classic because one cologne could be many different scents and styles.  Plus I guess the woman like to make sure they like the way their man smells.

Number 4 most popular gift given to a man in 2012 is “accessories.”  This seems like the “no brainer” or “oh crap Tuesday is Valentines Day” gift.  Come on ladies put a little more effort into a Valentine’s Day gift other then a scarf, wallet, hat or tie.  It’s a “love” holiday and to men that means “lust.”

To make sure that your man doesn’t ever forget a birthday or valentine’s day gift ever again, the 3rd most popular gift this year was a handheld organizer.  That’s right ladies a gift that can help the men remember those special dates.  The best part of it all is you made them think that this gift was for them and they don’t know you set 3 alarms for your birthday!

At last we have arrived in the year 2012, and the well advertised year of “the end of the world” according to some and perhaps even the ancient Mayan Indians.  With all the hoopla in the mainstream media, particularly the cinema, it seems that half of the public believes the Mayan calendar prophecy and the other half do not.  No one will ever know the truth until it happens.

Talking about the Mayan calendar is nowadays a bit redundant making it almost a lost memory.  However, there are still a number of changes occurring in our world that we should consider in light of the Mayan prophecy of the world undergoing major changes this December 21, 2012.  We all know that change is inevitable in any scenario we may imagine.  The only question is what kind of changes will occur, and when.

Let us look at some of the changes that have been occurring in the past decade and more recent days.  Since the year 2000 the global temperatures have been increasingly warmer and warmer.  This past year the global average temperature went on record as being the ninth warmest putting it into the list of the 10 hottest years on record.  These increases have been attributed to increasing amounts of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, carbon dioxide for one. The year 2011 had record-breaking weather extremes with associated disasters not only in the United States but across the world.

Repeated statements of less solar activity have made it into the press the last two or three years.  And still, the strongest solar storm seen since the year 2005 erupted this past January 22.  The storm sent charged particles toward the Earth’s atmosphere at a rate of over 14,000 miles per second.  Although threatening to disrupt world satellite communications and possibly knock out power grids, we were lucky to experience only beautiful aurora lights and diversions of some jet aircraft from their normal routes.

One of the most recent changes was that of a genetic mutation.  A park in England’s East Midlands has been the site of increased birdwatching as people seek to see an unusual blackbird.  This blackbird is unusual because it is entirely white.  Officials and park managers are asking the public to keep a close eye out for this bird in the hopes it will return in the spring.  Such a bird would be easy prey to predators because of its bright plumage.

These are just a very few of the changes that have occurred in recent times.  They are examples of what might be happening and perhaps a part of the changes prophesised by the ancient Mayan Indians.  Then again, maybe not.  Why not keep an open mind just in case the prophecy becomes a reality.  This is the year, 2012, when the Mayan calendar ends as a new era begins.
