Four Amish children died when their horse-drawn buggy toppled into a rapidly flooding creek. What a horrible tragedy for this family and for the entire Amish community!

Amish people are unique because they don’t use electricity like all other cultures. They dress very plain and live a "Plain" lifestyle. Amish have fun in ways similar to non-Amish, and in ways we might consider less typical, such as a sport like volleyball. They also like visiting, talking, and eating with other people.

The Amish generally eat foods produced in their own gardens or on their farms. As a rule, they do not eat processed, store-bought foods, such as corn flakes or potato chips. Homegrown fruits and vegetables, eaten fresh, canned, or frozen, play a very important part in the Amish diet. Vegetables often found in Amish meals include peas, corn, zucchini, beets, beans, rhubarb, and many others. Cabbage and potatoes are especially important. Sauerkrauta, type of pickled cabbage, appears at many Amish meals.

The Amana Colonies are a group of seven settlements of radical German Pietists in Iowa, USA. Their official title is the Ebenezer Society or the Community of True Inspiration. The movement began in 1714 in Germany by Eberhard L Gruber and Johann F Rock, both were members of the Lutheran Church.

Chicago, the Windy City, is a great reservoir and marketplace for diverse and energetic lifestyles. It is also a place my family and I have visited often. It used to be an ordeal for me, visiting there, because my first marriage was breaking up, and visiting Chicago and my then-wife’s friends there, was nerve-wracking. Later, when I passed through it with my son, en route to Washington, D.C., there were good reasons to remember it more fondly. Here are some reflections on my passages through the Windy City.

Hurricane Emma takes America by storm

The Amish have been in the news for many things, but it seems to be the first time they have made tabloid news headlines with an Amish model. Just recently the Howard Stern show hosted a model called Emma, the Amish Model. We believe that EMMA stands for: "Easy Money Making Amish", America’s much talked about sweetheart, who won the hearts of her viewers as she revealed how she stepped out of the ordinary to pursue a life that she wants, thanks to her God-given talents.
