The Propaganda of the Deed.

At the turn of the nineteenth century there was a political ideology that perceived murder and assassination not as the means to an end, but the path to salvation. Its adherents were dedicated, committed, and deadly. Its victims so often the rich and the powerful. No one was safe: Anarchism was the first great terror.

Hierarchy is a condition of life that seems to permeate almost every human institution we can think of, from corporations, the government and state, the military and police, families, religions, schools, the medical profession, and so on and on. But is hierarchy necessary, and what would a non-hierarchical society entail?
