Sportsman Who Helped Smash Segregation and Bring Civil Rights

Basil D’Oliveira was born in South Africa and grew up up under the racist apartheid system that classified him as cape coloured, a second class citizen. But he was also a top sportsman and cricketer. By moving to the UK and being picked to play for England he helped smash South Africa’s racist segregation system and get Civil Rights leader Nelson Mandela released from prison.
