Violent protests have called on the national historic failings of Australian elites in dealing with the natives into consciousness. A planned constitutional referendum could contribute to the outstanding reconciliation.

A constitutional referendum to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders get belated recognition

A reason to go on the road, have the Aborigines in Canberra again.

Forget it. Even though we are already in the extension -. It will not happen “Jack Cox, a tribal elder in the southwest of Australia’s living Noongar people, waving with both hands. He does not believe that to be the indigenous population, Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders so one day, the Constitution explicitly recognized as the first inhabitants of the continent. The old Cox organizes tours in Kodja Place Museum, three hour’s drive south of Perth, which is committed to reconciliation between black and white populations prescribed. How long the road to reconciliation nor is this, the protests in the capital Canberra on 26 January, the National Day of Australia, but showed impressive.
Fight for a symbol

The protests sparked by a statement of the right-wing opposition leader Tony Abbott. When asked about the importance of a tent embassy in Canberra housed Aboriginal, said that it had changed since the construction of the tent 40 years ago much. It should probably go on at the time. He cried not for the demolition of the embassy. But he put their meaning into question.

Many Aboriginal people, the National Day in Canberra celebrated the 40th anniversary of the embassy claimed that the statement so enraged that they went to Abbott and left Prime Minister Julia Gillard, who were staying at a nearby restaurant for an event, and both in escape excessive. They defended a symbol for the long struggle of the indigenous people – makes up about 2.3 percent of the total Australian population – about sovereignty, towards the recognition and land rights is. Demands, which are also still relevant today.

The tent embassy was erected 1972nd Five years ago the Australian people had with the overwhelming majority of 91 percent of the vote approved an amendment to the Constitution, thanks to the original inhabitants were ever officially counted until the Australian population.

The related hopes for recognition but were ruined by again in 1971. In an Aboriginal lawsuit against a mining company in the Northern Territory, a court said the natives of any land rights. It made reference to the doctrine of Terra nullius, which was proclaimed in 1835 by the British crown, and said that the colonized country was inhabited by no one and had therefore belongs to anyone. Unlike in New Zealand (see box) has been completed in Australia, therefore, never a contract between the Crown and the indigenous people to control the co-existence.
Past failures

It was not until 1992, the Supreme Court of the Terra nullius doctrine, declared null and void and cleared the way for the Native Title Act. The law speaks to some Aboriginal traditional land rights and establishes the procedures for negotiation, if the state or private land that is occupied by a native title use, want.

The indigenous lawyer Hannah McGlade referred to the protests in Canberra in a commentary for the newspaper “The West Australian but this law as a” picnic for lawyers “, which will usually interpreted in favor of the interests of the mining industry. McGlade also pointed to the still huge social gap between indigenous and white populations. According to official figures, for example, the proportion of young people who are neither in education nor in employment, with 40 percent of the Aborigines – in white adolescents are 10 percent. Seven times greater is the proportion of Indigenous children who are abused or neglected. Fourteen times more frequently an adult aboriginal lands in jail.

This reality is in the eyes of many Aboriginal people as a direct result of historical discrimination. McGlade does speak of “major achievements”, which – had been achieved – primarily through training and work opportunities. The relationship between indigenous and nichtindigener population is ultimately unsolved.
Clause against discrimination

The indigenous Professor Patrick Dodson stated in a recent speech at the University of New South Wales generally very poor terms with history. Many Australians still prefer it WOULD seem to forget that the Australian nation-state was founded on the historical legacy of colonial dispossession and the concealment of the indigenous people.

The Acting Prime Minister Julia Gillard since 2010 is planning for this reason a constitutional referendum. Patrick Dodson was co-chairman of the broad-based expert panel, which has recently presented specific proposals for amending the Constitution. Thus, to be enshrined, inter alia, that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders were the first inhabitants of Australia. Two constitutional provisions, while not being racially motivated, but at least theoretically, to the disadvantage of a race can be interpreted to be deleted. In addition, the panel a new general clause recommends against racial discrimination.

Thus, the recommendations go further than was commonly expected. Although the project for the recognition of indigenous peoples in the Constitution, in principle, is also supported by the opposition, Tony Abbott has filed objections to the anti-discrimination clause. Fears have been expressed that the referendum could fail because of this clause.

Criticism is also the part of the Aborigines. One of the founders of the Tent Embassy, Michael Anderson, called the referendum in a media release as a “traitorous act against the Aborigines,” because it is not the central issues of true sovereignty and land rights, as regards. – To a vote, it will come earlier than expected 2013th

A humorous look at learning English.

My apologies to anyone learning English as a second language, You have my sympathy.

Only in English could a slim chance and a fat chance mean the same thing, but a wise man and a wise guy be the opposite.

Only in English can the weather be hot as hell one day and cold as hell another.

Only in English can overlook and oversee be opposites, while quite a lot and quite a few are the same.

You’ve heard of a horseless carriage and a strapless gown, but have you ever seen a horseful carriage or a strapful gown?

Did you know that your house can burn up while it burns down or that you fill in a form by filling it out?

If the human race is a race, why is no one in a hurry to reach the finish line?

Can you tell me why when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible?

Why is it that when I wind up my watch, I start it, but when I wind up a story, I finish it?

Only in English!

Consider the Apostrophe:

It’s is not, it isn’t ain’t, and it’s it’s, not its, if you mean it is. If you don’t, it’s its. Then too, it’s hers, it isn’t her’s. It isn’t our’s either, it’s ours, and likewise yours and theirs.

If you think that the homographs of “-ough” wouldn’t confuse you, try wrestling with the following sentence:

A rough-coated, dough-faced, thoughtful ploughman strode through the streets of Scarborough; after falling into a slough, he coughed and hiccoughed.

Only in English!

Why do we park in the driveway but drive on the parkway?

If Olive oil is made from olives, what’s baby oil made from?

If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat?

In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital?

Why do we ship by truck and send cargo by ship?

Only in English!

Still set on learning English? Let’s see if this will change your mind.

Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present.

There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.

The bandage was wound around the wound.

The farm was used to produce produce.

The dump was so full it had to refuse more refuse.

He could lead if he would get the lead out.

The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.

When shot at the dove dove into the bushes.

Still not convinced? Here are a few more dandies.

To help with the planting the farmer taught his sow to sow.

The buck does funny things when the does are nearby.

Upon seeing a tear in the painting I shed a tear.

The insurance was invalid for the invalid.

There is neither an apple nor a pine in pineapple, no egg in eggplant and no ham in hamburger.

Did you know that quicksand works slowly, that sweetmeats are candies, while sweetbreads, which really aren’t sweet at all, – are meats?

Only in English!

If you are still not deterred, consider the following: English as spoken in the United Kingdom is different from that spoken in the United states, India, Australia and Canada. While Americans can fruits and vegetables, the British put them in tins. As an Englishman said to me once, “in America they eat what they can and what they can’t they can”. In Canada I once heard a boy ask the grocer for “a tin of can milk”!

Since you are still determined to learn English I wish you good luck and Godspeed.

And now as I want to shut down my computer – I have to hit “start”.

Only in English!

Why do people hate their own country

Many factors that affect the community in assessing their own country, some have argued that his country is good, and some have argued that poor country.

Opinions stunning emerging from a citizen of America, and life in the united states is difficult, and difficult. It is said through the messages sent.

However, some have argued that American country is a good country, and helping other nations to achieve peace.

Such opinion is valid, and thus is a fairness opinion, because everyone can give opinions, suggestions, and thoughts, according to reason and facts.

However, in private society should look nervously when his country did not side with the interests of the people, the people will protest when the country was not able to guarantee the welfare of its people.

Policies, decisions, and actions taken by the state, as well as unfavorable to the public, will make people to hate their own country.

This condition, it may be true for countries in Asia, Africa, Australia, or any other country.

Moreover, a country does not pay attention to human values.

The demand for people working in the services sector has created a gap that Australians are probably not going to fill as they regard working as cleaners, drivers or waiters somehow not prestigious enough.

The government is considering a radical decision – to find and actually import people that will fill the holes in this sector.

Australia was once an example for proper work ethic of its citizens. The reason is either people demanding too much on the financial side or just not willing to work those jobs. Either way the gap cannot just be left this way. However, people from another countries may find an opportunity like that too hard to just pass by. In fact, for cleaners Melbourne is a containing of many companies employing people on a daily basis. In addition, there are workers with significant amount of experience in the cleaning sector, which only comes to show that the conditions offered are good enough to make a person – a long-serving employee.

The problem comes from the young generation. Of course, there are jobs way more tempting but the services sector is in no means an insignificant one. Young people, logically, tend to aim higher at those high-paying jobs. Their childhood years have been full of dreams of being a well paid professional in the health or business sector. As most of the children, Australians are no different – they grow up with promises of how they are destined for great things. But now those words seem to have a negative effect.

The tourism industry – a profitable one in most of the countries as well as in Australia. But now there is a shortage in staff in almost every particular job – from cooks, waiters, bartenders – the government is planning to allow more businesses to bring workers on a 3-4 years working visas. For cleaning Melbourne is in demand for services which hence creates the same thing for people willing to work in this sector. Such part of full time jobs can be pretty good for students willing to gain a degree in an Australian college or university.

The article describes the importance of economic management and education in Australia.

Education is important as it provides people with the skills that they need to build a future for themselves and their family. Schools have developed learning objectives to achieve their desired outcomes across the country. State and private schools are expected to achieve specific targets to meet their funding requirements. According to Peter Meadmore (2004) schools have become business oriented at the expense of a providing students with a quality education. Teachers are concerned that they are being hindered in their attempt to do what they are trained to do. He suggests that schools are often results driven as they compete for more resources and facilities for their students.

Schools have become autonomous enterprises as they determine their own budgets as well as the need for future funding. They plan building projects and modern technology to help them grow over time. Managers employ staff based on their reputation to help create a place where students will want to learn and improve their prospects. Meadmore (2004) suggests that learning institutions adopted a hierarchical approach as a way organising them. He suggests that government departments and school boards determine what is taught as well as how it is taught.

Curriculums are designed to teach people what the authorities consider they should be taught. Teachers consider that they have little power to alter the material, yet they have the knowledge and skills to know what is appropriate for children and what is not. In conclusion schools and other learning institutions are expected to deliver on pre-determined objectives to justify the funding that they receive from the government.

The article describes the importance of discipline and education in Australia.

Education was not the great equaliser as the authorities would have Australians believe. According to Grant Rodwell (2003) scientists and government authorities considered that they needed to breed out impurities to produce a superior nation of people. Children were placed into categories based on race, gender, class and socio-economic status. Rodwell (2003) suggests that these factors were used to justify the government’s education policies for a perfect society.

Segregation policies were adapted to prevent disabled and foreign children from contaminating the country. While these policies were misguided they were designed at a time when racism and general discrimination was common in Australia. The work contains key words such as eugenics, teacher selection, science, management and teacher training to help the reader understand what it is about.

Managers recognised the need for quality teachers as they considered that the right instruction would help them to achieve their objective. Teacher selection was based on discipline, personal achievement, past experience and child achievements. Rodwell (2003) suggests training colleges were created to give people the skills that they needed to teach children of all ages. Teachers were expected to instruct their young charges about the importance of grooming, deportment and manners to give them a well rounded education. In conclusion educators were expected to teach normal, strong, healthy, children while excluding anyone who did not fit that particular image.
