Our economic problems are compounded by our national debt.  Barack Obama thinks the economy takes precedence over the national debt. His actions reflect his opinion that a robust economy is essential to resolving our debt problems. Mitt Romney favors austerity with massive tax cuts and less government regulations to ease the effects of austerity on the economy. Will the acts of austerity negate the effects of the tax cuts and easing of government regulations? Will the increase in the national debt nullify the effects of the stimulus package?

Should the Federal government attempt an economic recovery via tax incentives or via stimulus or both? Historically, an economic recovery always deepened our national debt regardless of the method used to restore the economy.

          I find it very unfortunate that they are trying to do this without us finding out. Ex-Senator Chris Dodd is who inserted the authority for them to do this into Congress’s pending financial reform bill. The law authorizes the Federal Reserve to provide “discount and borrowing privileges” to clearing house emergancies.

            The only thing they have to do to get help is be deemed “systemically important” by the new Financial Stability Oversight Council that is chaired by the Treasury Secretary. It was last year when regualtors finalized the rules for how this new power would be used. Then last Tuesday it came into play.

         To end this article with some good news, the House of Representatives anouned that legislation to thoroughly audit the FED, that has been pushed by Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) for decades, is coming up for a floor vote in July. Advocates of honest-money and pro-transparency activists have been celebrating this news since it is a historic opertunity to reign in the central bank. The legislation, H.R. 459, already has over 225 co-sponsors in the House, some of whom chair important committies.

     That is great news but, the bill still needs help. You can do this by contacting your local congressman about this issue. We all need to unite and make sure that this bill passes because, the FED has been debasing our currency for years and they need to be audited.
