Nobody is exempted from this kind of feeling where you don't seem to want to do anything. It is called boredom. Everybody has some point in their lives that they feel bored. However, there is nothing positive that results from being bored. In fact, it's a hindrance to success and happiness. How do we beat boredom?

That’s the question that a lot of us needs to answer. The answer is not in terms of words but in terms of actions. We may write a whole book about how to beat boredom but if in our lives, we look bored, feel bored, and demonstrates a boring life, it doesn’t benefit us much. In this article, pardon me but I will be a bit personal because it’s what happened to me. I hope it can inspire someone and get something going on, without being bored in life.

There are two things that I would like to share so please bear with me.

First, boredom can be defeated, knocked down with spiritual truth!

Back in 1998, my life is so boring and it seems there’s no meaning in life. I have nothing to do so I went with my cousin in his invitation to a Baptist Preaching Service. Being my first time, I sat at the back. Oh my soul! My heart begun to burn when the Preacher started to preach about the love of God and how sinful I am, not deserving but He loved me so truly. I opened my heart to Jesus Christ that day and my life was never the same again.

Second, boredom can be defeated, knocked down with a passiionate purpose in life!

I was invited to a Business Opportunity Presentation back two years ago which we know it today as mlm business. As I sat and listened to the presenter drawing circles, explaining leverage, how I can achieve my financial goals in life, and how I can be a blessing to others, oh my soul! That was the first time I saw a system that ignites my purpose in life. All along, I want to be a blessing to others. This is the system I want to be part of. I want to achieve that purpose. It’s only now that I can see the means of achieving that goal.

To tell you honestly, I didn’t sleep much for two weeks thinking and planning how I can achieve financial freedom and be a blessing to others. From that day onward, there’s no day that I felt bored!

It is very boring to be bored. Some people are bored to death while others bore the death itself. Here are a few tips to kill boredom rather than letting boredom kill our creativity.

Happy Hobby:

Finding what one is interested in and pursuing the hobby is greatest way to kill boredom. Hobby need not be remunerative, as the only remuneration expected out of it is happiness and satisfaction due to achievement. If you choose making telescopes, then do not expect to find a planet on the first night itself. It took me almost 3 months to get the perfect shot using my camera, as the cam understood me in a week and I am still striving to perfect it

Teach Each:

Do you know to read and write? Why not teach somebody else to do it too! Do not wait for someone to come and ask you to teach how to read or write. Go around and look out for these little children in the workshops, tea shops and even in gas pumps, who are unfortunate enough to go to schools. Make friends with them. Remember: winning their trust is the toughest part, as they are business-kids who are already earning and would not have time or conviction to learn. Invest your boring time with them and educate them. Nothing enlightens us than teaching. The teacher always learns more than the student.

Learn-Earn:

Learn something new and make some earnings out of it. If you love to crumple papers, learn origami and showcase your exhibits. If you love to write, you have Triond and Bukisa at your service. If you love to paint, paint and publish in Triond. Learn photography, add narration and publish in Triond. If you love symbology (like me), learn a new language during boring times. The teacher appears when the student is ready. Prepare yourself to be ready to learn.

Sleep Slow:

If you want to just laze around, rather than watching TV, go to sleep. Sleep requires only half the energy as compared to watching the idiot-box. In our busy lifestyle even the night’s sleep has become as good as a quick nap or a midday siesta. When bored, catch up the accumulated sleep slowly and deeply. While I was working in night shifts, I used to accumulate sleep. Sleep for 6 hours a day for 5 days, which will be (10 hours) 5 x 2 hours short of the normal sleep. So, over the weekend sleep peacefully for a stretch of 2 x 14 hours or 2 x 10 hours + 2 x 4 hours siestas to catch up with sleep. It is proven medically that humans can accumulate sleep up to a week. Accumulation over a week is not healthy at all.

Exercise-Energize:

One healthy way of fighting off boredom is doing physical exercise. The techniques such as yoga, tai-chi, qigong, etc require lots of time and therefore is one of the best pastimes.Aerobics and visiting gym, walking in beach or park are also nice exercises for the body, mind and soul. These also increase endurance and physical fitness and help you catch up with the exercise requirements.

Beat Boredom; Live Life

10 Ways to beat boredom, when money is tight.

Boredom is getting to you. And it costs money to do nearly anything these days. Take heart, beating boredom, while on a budget, is entirely possible.

Hobbies and activities can be expensive but this isn’t always the case. Even simple changes in routine can help to ward off boredom. Use any of the suggestions below for a lift when spirits are dull.

Walk to your local library and browse through the books. The sights and sounds will help to dispel feelings of boredom; the exercise will do you good. While you are there, pick up some free movies for later.

Plan to visit yard sales or flea markets. You may find just the item you’ve been looking for and at substantially reduced cost. Bringing something different home can be a pick-me-up; finding craft supplies or kitchen ornaments can be a nice surprise.

Change your appearance. Cut your hair or change its color. If you aren’t skilled with scissors or dye, get a friend to help you. Visit a used clothing store and pick out something new-to-you. Sometimes, just changing the way you look or having something different to wear can be enough to dispel boredom.

Set aside some time to go for a drive in the country or plan to visit a park or a beach. Pack a simple picnic lunch and make a whole day out of it. Walking along paths or by the water or taking a winding country drive and taking in the sights can be a low-cost boredom buster.

Decide to hone up on a subject you’ve always found interesting. Take notes and mentally go over the points to see if you remember what you’ve learned.

Hold a potluck and movie night and invite your friends over. This low-cost socializing will provide laughs and companionship that will help to lighten your mood.

Call someone. Boredom often goes hand in hand with loneliness. Reaching out may be just the thing to pull you out of yourself. Exchanging ideas with someone else may help you to feel more connected.

Plan to do something nice for one of your neighbors or for a family member. Think of what you could take over to them: homemade cookies, a loaf of homemade bread, or some produce from your garden, maybe?

Change the furniture around. You may find that your spirits lift and ideas flow, once you embark on this project.

Dig a flowerbed. Ask your friends for pieces of their perennials, pick up inexpensive seed packets. Add to your flowerbed as you can afford to do so.

With a little planning, you can beat boredom–even when times are tight. If you take action, you just might find that boredom has taken a backseat.
