Why change Barbie to make her look common? Who wants to be common?

Barbie, as in Barbie doll, is perfect. That’s why we all want to play with her when we are little. There is a brunette version of barbie and there are various ethnic versions of Barbie.

The talk of making Barbie look more realistic has me puzzled. She looks real to me. I grew up being called “Barbie Doll” so, I don’t get it.

Why do we now want to discriminate against attractive things? The talk is that she is too perfect and we need to make her nose bigger, her waistline bigger and more “common” looking. I think that’s called rub a dub dolly.

I like Barbie. I think she’s pretty, or was. Now she is almost unrecognizable. The difference is ridiculous. They say is send a bad message to girls. What’s the message? Pretty people don’t exist?

They do and guess what? It doesn’t take plastic surgery to be pretty. Start with soap, water, a hairbrush and a healthy diet.

Now they are also adding tattoos, because, that’s realistic. It’s not.

So, attractive and skinny is bad for little girls to see, but tattoos are a great thing to see.I don’t agree!

Let’s stick with the pretty and stop the silliness! I won’t even begin to address the fact that the poor girls boyfriend of many years is now being portrayed as gay. Goodness, give the girl a break!

Can she at least get another man in her life? Maybe the realistic look and tattoos scared poor Ken away!

One old man's life lessons.

For you were made in my image…Genesis 1:27

A lot has been made of this verse but I am going to simplify. I’ll let the intellectuals find the needle. What I am mostly interested in at this point in my life is the Father/Son relationship with God. So I ask , “Why did our Father create us to look like Him?”

Can you think of anything more natural for a Father to do? I can’t. I wanted my children to look like me. And if anyone said so, it pleased me. This is just another easy-to-understand hint from the Father on how much He wanted us to be His family. From the beginning of time, He wanted this. And nothing should be more pleasing to us, and to God, than for someone to say we look just like our Father in heaven. Physically, they aren’t going to say this. But spiritually? Yes, they will. All we have to do is to look like our Brother, Jesus, and we will look like our Father as well. Because Jesus said, “If you’ve seen me, you’ve seen the Father.” John 14:9 So if we look like Jesus in our character and like the Father in our design, then we look like the Father both from birth and also from rebirth! See how much our Father desires us to be His children?! Beautiful! Both inside and out!

Don’t let anyone convince you that you are ugly. It’s just not the truth. We look like our Father and He is beautiful!

What is real beauty all about?

When Ms. Gloria Diaz became the first Filipina Ms. Universe, our whole country went really so happy about that. To quote someone, “The USA may have conquered the moon, but the Filipinos conquered the universe.”

We went crazy about that. Imagine a nation that’s small, even unknown, besting other countries whose representatives are taller, fairer, maybe even prettier. But we saw a Filipina winning over, and above all them.

So how does one really measure what beauty is all about?

Many would say that it was her very candid and smart response that earned her the crown.

But if that is so, if one is intelligent, shouldn’t they be confined to IQ contests or maybe quiz bees? And not in a contest where beauty is the main thing that you are vyng for?

Maybe beauty is not just all about the physical aspect, but it goes a lot deeper than that. It’s about character, humor grace, wit, and yes, intelligence.

Let make our own destiny by our hands.

We are constantly imitating others. When we copy other people, we can’t reproduce their charisma, talent or success. Externally, we can imitate their life, their way of dressing and drive the same kind of car, but this does not bring us fulfilment.

We can take another’s life as an example, but we must think hard before we follow them. Look at the virtues of others and ask yourself: “I have something valuable and worthwhile myself? How can I bring it out?” When you notice something bad in those around you, make a firm resolve: “Let me not nurture such vices”.

There is much hidden potential in each one of us. What should we do to make this blossom? When you activate yourself, you bring out all the strengths and talents that God has given you, all that is inherent in you, that is natural in you, something genuine and original.

Create your own identity. When you do this other people gravitate towards you. Activation leads to gravitation. Then you don’t imitate others. Instead others might want to be like you. We are used to paying more attention to the external world. We try to gain social approval by dressing ourselves in a certain manner.

We stand in front of the mirror and make sure that we are presentable before we leave the house. We trust the mirror implicitly. The mirror reflects our outward appearance, not our thoughts, feelings and relationships.

Does it reflect the love in your heart? You may go to your workplace dressed in your best clothes. When somebody provokes you there, you may retort in anger or sulk in silence. Either way your peace of mind is shattered. Now your beautiful dress does nothing to help you.

Only inner strength and equipoise can continue to keep you calm, cheerful and unruffled. For this you have to activate the divine core within, from which flows a perennial stream of peace and tranquillity.

Imitation cannot give you peace. So, watch your attitude, thoughts, words and desires. Be aware of the calmness in your inner core and try to retain it.

External beauty is temporary. Inner beauty is permanent and eternal. This is the beauty we need and this is what we gain when we activate ourselves. This is the beauty God recognises. So seek love, for you seek inner beauty. Direct your mind to a higher ideal.

When you see the divine beauty concealed in your own heart, you also see it in others. “Do not see, seek”. Don’t look merely at the external form, but also at the divinity within. Today when you see a beggar, you will give him alms.

You will not pat him on the back or shake his hand. If your child comes home, dirty from the playground and calls you “Mummy, Daddy …”, you hug him with love.

If a child in rags comes to you, you drive him away because you don’t love him. For the realised soul a beggar and a king are equally divine and beautiful because he has activated his inner core.

When you imitate you only see. When you activate you seek. The difference between “see” and “seek” is the “k”. That “k” is kindness or karuna.

When there is care, compassion and kindness, nothing else matters. So let us stop imitating. Let us evaluate ourselves and nurture the divine core within. Let us seek. Let us activate.

The Gateway of the Most Important Seaway of the World
The beach is unique in its beauty and tidiness

The great tourist of Venice City, Marco polo served the King Kublai Khan of China for 17 years. He was not only the special advisor of the King but also the center of his grants. Kublai Khan was the super power of his age and his court was the super court. But Marco Polo was getting fed up of this court and recalling his home very much.

He requested the King for leave, which was accepted reluctantly. Then he started his journey with his father, uncle and 600 people in yachts to his way back home to Venice city of Italy. He entered from China to the Indian Ocean through Malacca, since it was the only way that joins Indian Ocean to South China Sea.

It was also the most important seaway 8 centuries back as it is now, where big trading ships used to transfer merchandize from China, Japan and other countries of the Pacific Ocean to India, Middle East, Europe and African countries. That’s why it is also known as “World’s Seaway”. One of the gates of this seaway is “Malacca”, which is also the city of Malaysia and on the other side is “Sumatra”, the important city of Indonesia.

The cool snowy breeze still blows the same way as used to in 1292, when Marco polo had to settle for five months along with his sea caravan in Sumatra waiting for the settling down of the climate. But even the worst thing that Marco polo had to face was the sea piracy, which he had to face many times. This problems is still alive, but at that time the weapons were not as sophisticated as they are now.

Marco polo writes, “Only 18 people could reach safe and sound to Venice among 600 people. My father and uncle were also among them. Though our clothes were turned into rags but diamonds were still fixed on them, which Kublai Khan had granted us at the time of our departure”.

The Malacca is situated 148 kilometers west of Kuala Lumpur. There is a never endings series of forest between these two cities. The trees in the forest are mainly rubber producing trees. A scar has been made on the tree trunk and a vessel similar to cooking pot has been attached beside that scar for collecting rubber in the shape of thick juice which afterwards turns into rubber.

Rubber is the main export of Malaysia but the arrival of artificial plastic has reduced this export to much extent because of its cheaper rates. The road from Kuala Lumpur to Malacca is not a Motor way rather it is a Highway having very low traffic. Few small cities lie between Kuala Lumpur and Malacca. Malacca in fact is the smallest city of Malaysia. It is totally an autonomous state.

After the renaissance in Europe the adventurers and tourists headed towards East. They were in the search of new worlds and also wanted to earn lot of money. Marco polo, the great traveler had already mentioned in his account of journeys that Europeans were always interested in the treasures.

That’s why the discovery of America, the discovery of the ruins of ancient town of Latin America, search for treasures in Africa and even the search of the remains of pharos are all dependent on the European’s treasure hunt obsession. These adventurers used to go out in search of treasures with the help of old decay maps and marks and saw dreams of becoming rich overnight. They started their search from Portugal and Spain due to the fact that the then Muslim Arab governments who were equipped with the then most modern shipping and sea voyaging techniques, used to teach the inhabitants about these techniques.

This is the reason that the fortune-hunters of the European renaissance spread in the world from these two countries (under the influence of Muslims sea knowledge) and not only ruled the world but also given birth to a new western culture, which is still alive. It can easily be judged now that how big civilization becomes helpful to other, if positively applied instead of mere opposition.

Alfonso de Albuquerque, the famous Portugal’s adventurer of the history, headed this way on 15th April from the newly formed Indian Portuguese colony Goa along with 1200 people and 17 boats. After reaching Malacca, he took control of it till the end of August. Before Alfonso de Albuquerque, Malacca remain under Muslim regime for long, since Arab sailors and traders reached there earlier, spread Islam and set the Muslim regime in this Far East area which was under the ruling of the local Sultans.

Arab’s Muslims were very expert in shipping techniques and thus received much popularity in Spain. They were fully aware of the sea and its passages. Their sharper eyes recognized the importance of the Strait of Malacca and its gateway. They had the sense that for trading from Far East and China through sea, it would be essential taking control of this seaway.

Therefore, Muslims continued ruling over there since 1300 when at last in 1511 Alfonso de Albuquerque took control over there. Alfonso de Albuquerque defeated the then Muslim ruler Sultan Mehmood Shah and turned Malacca into a Portuguese colony. But Portuguese could not get hold of it for long and soon in 1641 Holland captured the Strait after defeating him.

They ruled till 1741 until famous British East India Company got hold of it. Now, Britain had been the Super Power and it was fully aware of the sea secrets. The Britain was preparing to control the world and thus their hold over the strait was essential. The Indian Ocean and the nearby countries was its target. They could get the raw material from there that could run the factories of the new world and new civilization.

Malacca seaway is 805 Km long. It is today considered the most important trading and military center. You can easily guess its importance by a single oil product that around 18 million barrel oil pass through it daily. It would be worth mentioning here that now another island Singapore has gained much trading and military importance on this seaway. Its seaport lies before Singapore.

More than 10 million ships pass through Malacca Strait yearly and more than 1/3 of the trading goods of the world pass through this Strait. America, China, Russia, India, Britain, France and all the nearby countries take care of this Strait, especially American 7th and 6th Sea fleet play an important role in keeping it open, since America is Nuclear Power and have fully ammunition loaded ships and submarines, which remains underwater.

Malacca city have seen the change of ruling nations again and again in the last five centuries. Therefore, besides Muslims Mosques, you can see Churches, and other worship places of Portuguese, Dutch and Britain Style. Similarly, population also consists of many nations, but the majority is of Malay residents who are Muslims, whereas Christian and Sikhs also reside there.

The Malaysian government has taken special care in safeguarding the remains of Portugal, Dutch and Britain so as to make the city more attractive for the tourists, especially for the European tourist. That’s why European tourists are seen here and there visiting the city happily.

Perhaps the most attractive thing in the tourist industry can be that there would be something present for the foreigners that could help them bringing close to their civilization. That’s why the Muslims countries who have kept the ancient reminiscences safe are earning pounds, dollars, Euros and Yen from them and making their countries prosperous. If the Nation has confidence, the old remains cannot harm its identity. These old remains are the gateway of the history and even if destroyed, they will remain safe in the books.

Malacca is a small city. The most interesting center of it is an old castle named “A’ Famosa”. It is a reminiscence of Portuguese age. Seemingly it depicts the Western Civilization, but people who are aware of the construction art, can see the glimpse of Spanish Muslims art in it as well. Malacca city is situated on both sides of the River Malacca. There is so wonderful panorama of old and new buildings that cannot be found elsewhere in Far East or South East Asia. That’s why UNESCO titled it as “The Great Work of Global Heritage”. Another wonderful thing is that all the people of different nations and religions are living there very peacefully. Any type of anarchy is extinct here. A’ Famosa castle might remained the center of war sometime in the past but today it is the most attractive place for the world’s tourists, because all kinds of facilities like Hotels and Theaters etc. are present here under one roof.

Turning of military castles into economic castles is common in today’s world. It is common in Europe as well. This custom has been adopted my many developed Muslim countries that has opened the gates of employment and earning foreign exchange. These castles are also a wonderful source of bringing coordination and harmony among nations. But, unfortunately, weak, frightened and nervous nations think it their great feat destroying such type of castles and others alike ancient reminiscences.

Alfonso de Albuquerque, after collecting treasures and wealth from Malacca returned back to Goa. The name of the ship he was traveling in was “Flor Do Mar”, which sank in the Indian Ocean due to heavy storm with all his wealth and treasures. The model of this ship has been kept at one of the crossings of Malacca so that every visitor must see and take advice from it.

Malacca city has a great contribution in spreading Islam in the Far East, since Muslims traders and merchants from India and other Muslim countries came there for trading purposes and also brought their civilization and religion with them. Great number of Malaya people accepted Islam in 1500.

Although it was ruled most of the time by Portuguese, Dutch and Britain but the majority is of Muslims. Islam spread to all over Malaysia from there and the ancient Mosques are witnessing about it even today.

The Malacca beach is unique in its beauty and tidiness. Blue sea is seen just in front, the bright sand and high cleanliness makes the beach captivating. Its beach has now gone farther from the sea as land has been taken to make room for the inhabitants, but the natural beauty of the beach has not been reduced even an inch.

The same strong wet winds of the age of Marco polo give visitors a new feel of freshness. These winds are blowing from America, Japan, Australia, China or Indian Ocean. Really a small city of Malacca and its Strait that joins many parts of the world is now among one of the wonders of Nature.

A critique against the low quality in Hollywood movies and how stereotyping is damaging our relations as humans and as a society.

TODAY’S HOLLYWOOD MOVIES

Since human beings have intelligence, they have been in the need of expression. Therefore, we have developed many kinds of art movements to satisfy our creativity, and movies are the most modern and also the most popular. Anyway, the quality of movies has been decreasing dramatically. First of all, stereotyping has taken a very important role to get success in the promotion and releasing of a movie. Another point is the low quality of some actors in performing a character; now is very common that some actors are good only for some characters. A last observation could be that most of the creators of movies take old stories to make new versions, or they only take a popular event to develop a story; such as “Titanic” or “Pearl Harbor”.

Stereotyping has taken a very powerful role in the cinematographic stage. For example, a hero has to have some very specific characteristics to perform a protagonist character. Similarly, the female star is required to be a certain way to capture the public attention. Therefore, the public gets a specific conception of beauty with people like Brad Pitt or Jennifer Lopez. More over, the antagonist must also have more or less the same characteristics of the leading characters. Stereotyping is not only in the characters. While we are watching a movie we realize that places have a traditional look too. Therefore, USA is depicted as technology and Mexico or the rest of Latin America, on the other hand, are represented like very remote places. Furthermore, movies that show countries like Colombia or Bolivia, degrade them involving them only with drug production or extremely crime.

Since stereotyping has taken place, bad actors have come with it. It is not a coincidence that we still see the same people in Hollywood movies. Stereotyping is easily done because we are used to accepting only a certain people. Also directors do not want to take the risk of trying something new. Obviously there are good actors, but anyway the movie world has been filled up with mediocrity. First of all, they always look for people with certain characteristics besides acting ability. Also, they classify people according their look, so some of them are okay to be a protagonist, but the rest only to be extras. For example, Leonardo Dicaprio performs very badly in Titanic. He behaves like a guy of the United States in the 90’s that is very far from the character of an English man during the years of the Titanic.

The problem in Hollywood movies begins with the screenplay for a movie. Writers have limited their creativity in a specific and repetitive model of movie. Even people who are not movie fans realize that in many of the movies, director develop a story like a routine for every single movie. We can realize of this absence of creativity when we have seen “Rocky” in five different editions; some of us could say that it is a kind of mini-series. Another example is the 101 dolnations, that after the success in cartoons it has been made into a movie. But the worst thing is when we see movies where they are not movies, but actually big musical repertories. This was the case with “Space Girls”, or the current Rock Star. Actually, rock star was funny but it did not make any sense.

Hollywood has been producing a lot of movies with bad quality because of their coward-ness in trying new things. It is true that most of the people are satisfied seeing their favorite artists on the screen. But there are some viewers who are looking for good art, and obviously they realize the carelessness that the directors have with the stories for movies. Also, stereotyping has limited the options for many actors with all the conditions to perform leading characters. However, I still hope that someday I will watch the reality of life on movies, and not a made up world of artificial beauty created to wash our brains with superficiality.

What is aesthetics and why is it important? Aesthetics has an effect on a person's assessment of things as well as the people around the person. Aesthetics affects peoples' view and opinion through what's known as a "halo effect." The aesthetic aspect of any design directly influences the perception of other aspects, for example a well decorated and homely cottage feels cosy and more comfortable for stay compared to a mansion that appears cold though furnished with up to date furnishings.

Whatever we do, be it work at home or in the workplace, aesthetics has a great role to play in the way we feel and in our judgement and satisfaction. A home isn’t a home if it does not exude warmth and comfort. Food and drinks are not palatable though they may be nutritious if they aren’t served or handled in a clean and attractive manner. Like wise clothes we wear do not become part of us if they are not fashioned to suit the figure and form of the wearer. Music we listen to should also appeal to our aesthetic senses to be really welcomed and appreciated. Aesthetics can be a motivator and a powerful force that can drive us to reach excellence in all our endeavours as well.

This simple example in italics which I am going to cite will tell you how important aesthetics is in our lives. I came home after a tiring day at work feeling really exhausted and low. When I entered my home, I saw the dining table beautifully decorated with my favourite food and all the items neatly arranged on the table. There was a vase of lovely roses displayed in the centre and a card with the words ‘ Thank you mummy for being a wonderful person.’

It wasn’t mother’s day or my birthday. With the lovely thoughts and the attractive table layout, my tiredness and exhaustion just vanished. Aesthetics can drive away unpleasantness and the feeling of depression in the wink of an eye.

When one looks at the skyline in the different countries of the world one sees the various landmarks. What makes these landmarks unique? It’s their beauty of form and architecture which projects an aesthetic value. Likewise when we are at the movies, aesthetics has a great role to play in our appreciation or rejection of the movie that is being watched on screen.

Aesthetics can determine relationships as well. How one moves, talks and carries oneself and one’s body language and words used in speech can portray one’s personality which indirectly creates the ’halo effect.’ This is the reason some of us are classified as charismatic or otherwise. It doesn’t take one to know rocket science to be categorised as charismatic. Quoting Albert Einstein, ‘Imagination is more important than knowledge,’ I end by saying that even the most learned and astute of scholars may not be charismatic if they lack aesthetics.

Flawless has never been more Epic.

Yinth and Lith found themselves in a beach that had no way back to the way they came from as if they had gone through a portal and appeared at the beach. They tried running back to the jungle so their slave owner and his men could not spot them but there was no jungle to go back to but a city Yinth and Lith where looking around and saw people in strange clothing staring back at them. Their clothing was colorful and clean like nothing they have ever seen before. Lith stared at a young girl of about seventeen through twenty with a white sundress with sunflowers around her abdomen area in a full loop, petals of red, pink, and whites roses hanged from the shoulder’s short sleeve crowning her shoulder and arm, Lith Was lost in what she thought was the goddess beauty and light Leneva herself. Yinth at the same time glanced at a man roughly twenty through thirty years old, Yinth saw muscular body and stare a his own. Yinth saw that this man’s muscular body was more toned than his own and started to contemplate his physique, Yinth carefully looked at his abdomen and how he had 8 abs so defined and the V shape in his waist that ran through legs of massive size muscles, his stature that showed character and strenght but most of all Yinth noticed his huge chest that stirred fear and respect into Yinth as a man. Yinth and Lith start to come back to their senses and hear a loud continues noise like an alert of something is coming and just run away from the bitch into the city avoiding all they see creating chaos amongst the city folk.

Carriages as they called it colored black and red with shining light of green and blue flashes were chasing them throughout the city. at a point Yinth and Lith are cornered with no way out and start to shout the city’s language in the what it was known to be an old spoken language back in the 1500s. Yinth and Lith are scared and would do anything, they felt trapped like when they were slaves where they came from. The question that Yinth and Lith asked themselves was how to do we get out of this hell that we ended up in and felt sad to know that their so called freedom was lost as fast they gain it.
