My Favorite Crime/mystery Book of 2011: Thick as Thieves by Peter Spiegelman

by Jules Brenner in Crime, January 16, 2012

This is one crime thriller for which the promotional quotes are not
overblown. Several may even be understated. It’s a smashing piece of work
featuring behavioral psychology in an entirely criminal context, leading to a
climax that is utter joy for those readers who love a twist they didn’t see
coming. In excruciating suspense it may be said to compare to the best
moments in a James Bond movie (insofar as that may be a criterion for mystery readers).

This is for W, an acquaintance who is hurting now : Betrayal and the failure of love is one of those good stories to tell. However, in real life, there’s no good in story if it is about the life of someone we know, someone we love, someone we regard as friend. I’ll pray that you pass this trial. Whatever concludes your story, may you find peace in your heart, understanding from your family and friends, and comfort in the arms of your kids. God is good and He will not give you trials you cannot surpass. Just believe and hope.

Halloween, The Days Upon The Year (A Ballad of Ghostly Revenge)

by Ian Thorpe in Paranormal, October 23, 2011

A chilling tale as Halloween (or Samhuin to the initiated) approaches. W4 have love, betrayal and vengence from beyond the grave. Told in the traditional ballad style of minstrels and balladeers with an added Gothic horror feel. Read this one out at you Halloween party – if you dare…. (At least one fellow inmate hails from my part of the world so a footnote explains the title and folk legends I have cobbled together to create this tongue in cheek story)

How to Overcome Betrayal?

It is better to have loved and lost than not to have loved at all. It is better to be cheated than to be a cheat. It is better to have suffered the wrong than to have done the wrong.

Betrayed for The Good of The Order

When the Korean War began a regiment of American soldiers who had been living high in occupied Japan were suddenly asked to act as a delaying force in South Korea to slow down the progress of the attacking North Koreans. They lacked training, leadership, and equipment. In the slaughter that ensued many "bugged-out" and were called cowards. My brother was thrown into this fray as a replacement.
