My husband and I are SO far behind in the technology world. We have a new PC but only with the ability to upload pictures and we also have a web cam. But I’m pathetically greedy. I want a smart phone.

I am going to get this smart phone even if it makes me have to stand on my head for three minutes and do thirty push ups. I will beg and plead for the sake of it.

Smart Phones are cheap. They only cost 200-dollars. Buying clothes for my wardrobe costs 500-dollars.

Oh why can’t I please have a smart phone for my Birthday?

Thank God that I am alive today to witness another year. Many people who we were born on the same day that would have loved to celebrate this day are no more. Those with whom I started the race together, who would have loved to make merry today are no more. Even those with whom I decided to celebrate it in big form and made preparation could not scale through. Do you think it is because of my holiness or faithfulness that is responsible for my being alive? Mind you it is not in him who walks to direct his steps but the Lord does.

That I am alive today is a thing of joy to me, my friends and well-wishers. Because I am alive we all together are happy. I am appreciative for the love showered on me in this occasion of my birthday. I feel elated for this golden treatment lavished on me. Not all enjoy this type of love. Thank you so much for it all.  Though it hasn’t been easy but your prayers and wishes God has acted on. His faithfulness has been enormous to see me through.

When I look back to that great day of birth, I wonder how it looked like. With people from all areas of life and from all parts of the world gathered together to, celebrate the birth of a child. Today, that occasion is remembered for good. Now I know what it looked like then. Come now and felicitates with me. Let’s together make it merrier.

As all your wishes for me are received, it is my candid prayer that God will bless and honour you. All that you wish me will come back to you in thousand and million folds. BIRTHDAYS

Yesterday – 29th January – was my birthday.  I love birthdays.  I’ve always like to celebrate my birthdays in style – and have continued to do since I was 60 and a fledgling Trionder.  Last year, 2011, we travelled to Barcelona for a long week-end.  The year before, in 2010, for my 60th, we drove for an hour and a half to the tiny village of Falstone in Northumberland (North East England) to stay in a converted barn.  Our little palace was the ‘Romantic Medieval Cottage for Two’ and it was wonderful.

MY FIRST EVER ARTICLE ON TRIOND

It was in 2010 when I began to write creatively – and of course I wrote about my 60th birthday week-end.  The article/memoir was my first ever post to be published on Triond.  I called it ‘a Hundred Hours of Birthday Bliss’.  At that time, I had no idea that I could upload photographs or videos. I had no idea what the Triond Community was.  I didn’t even know that you could have fans or friends on Triond.

FANS AND FRIENDS ON TRIOND

I didn’t exactly hit the ground running!  It must have been about a month after my first post had been published that I got an email from Triond saying ‘***is now your fan’

“What?” I said, “What on earth is this?”

So I checked out my ‘fan’ and found out that I could also become someone’s friend.  There was a community of Trionders out there!

DEVELOPING A BOND WITH FRIENDS

Being not too quick on the uptake, it took me nearly a year to realise that I could develop a real bond with Triond members – get myself some great writing ‘buddies’.  And since then, slowly but surely, I have added to my good friends (and continue to add as friend requests come in just about daily these days – THANK YOU!), developing really exciting relationships with other creative writers.  We ‘like’ and comment on one another’s work – we send private messages – we look out for our friends on the newsfeed on our profiles – we are a close community.  And my close community is growing and growing every day, to the point where, almost as soon as I have a post published, there are lots of views and constructive comments from the Triond community.

SOCIAL NETWORKING

I have joined Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Stumble Upon, My Space, Friend Feed, Google and Google Plus, Linked-In – and many more Social Networking sites with a view to promoting my work.  And it works.  My status in the Triond community is growing (I hope!) and continues to grow.  I am not earning big money – but I am earning more money. And I’m having fun.

                                                       Daughter Dear

You were born a month early, and although you were a healthy weight, your pallor was pale  because you had jaundice. I found out that it was normal for 8 month babies to get this, and it wasn’t long before you became a healthy pink, and  from that moment on you  thrived.

You were the youngest in the family, with a 9 year gap between you and the eldest brother. You were a sunny child, very independent, and very loved,  with 2 brothers and a sister, as well as your dad and myself. You were always very untidy, your bedroom was like a tip, and nothing has changed.

You were also very loyal, kind hearted, and compassionate, and you still are. I still remember the day you went to choose a kitten, Dad’s words of wisdom were. ” Bring back a big male bruiser who can take care of himself.” And because you not only had a mind of your own, but also had a kind protective nature, you chose Charley, the runt of the litter, with a nature just as feisty as yours. It proved to be a very good choice, because she lived until she was 21, enjoying a long and happy life.

The teenage years were hard for you, we didn’t always understand one another, but when you came out the other side, you were the kind loving daughter that had always been there before. When you entered your early twenties, you had the sort of heartbreak that no person of that age should have to deal with, with the loss of your much loved sister. Although 7 years your senior, she had inspired you to become a very good swimmer, and you were both extremely close. As if that wasn’t enough, less than 3 months later, you lost Dad, the man who adored you so much, and the person you most resemble in looks and character. You had to bear all this grief, and yet you supported me, and were there for me, just when I needed you. Words are not really enough to thank you for helping me to deal with the worst possible time in my life.

Like all strong willed  people, you had to find your own path in life, but what an amazing  route you have chosen.

Growing up with a brother   with special needs wasn’t easy, and you never got my undivided attention, but as you have now chosen to work with children with special needs, I guess it didn’t faze you. I am so proud of you, your compassionate nature is put to such good use, enriching their lives, and making a difference for them, it is something that only special people can achieve, and you are undoubtedly very special.

As your 37th birthday approaches, you are still my baby, and always will be, you have a happy life that you richly deserve, and you are a wonderful mother. If your dad was here now, he would burst with pride to see you. Enjoy your life, and your birthday daughter dear, and I hope all your dreams come true.

There are people in this world who do not find it vital to celebrate their birthdays. I once was like that before until one day when I attended my grandmother’s birthday celebration. Birthday celebrations are very emotional moments in life. At my grandmother’s birthday celebration, everyone was asked to give a speech addressed to my grandmother, it was a gathering of sons, daughters and grandchildren and grand-grandchildren.

I personally, became very emotional, tears rolled down my face as her sons and daughters (my aunties’ and uncles’) told my grandmother how special she was to them. She had raised them in difficult times, times of thrashing, times of the war. She managed to shelter them despite the poverty and the difficult situations they were faced with.

Given that grandmother was born on the 29th of February, we only get to celebrate her birthday after four years have passed; it’s a long time for us. She has certainly had fewer or almost equal birthday celebrations compared to those of her siblings and yet her years never skip.

She is a very passionate old lady, who so many people look to for advice, she has natured her children into responsible citizens of this country, she is a God fearing person and her fruits have spread among her offspring’s. Our parents have raised us to fear and respect God.

This year is yet another chance for us to celebrate her birthday; we always try to make it very special because it’s a chance we get once in four years.

How can I not credit this day and say that it brings with it a blessing, people who bless others.
