“The sun will become dark, and the moon will turn blood red before that great and glorious day of the LORD arrives.” (KJV: Acts 2:20).

Astronomical analysis of 2014 and 2015 years reveal that blood red moons, solar eclipses, and lunar eclipses on Jewish feast days will occur over Israel and the Mideast. A lunar eclipse is a bad omen for Israel. A blood red moon means that the sword of warfare is coming or has already struck Israel. Four blood moons on Jewish feast days within two years in Israel are very rare and it has only occurred seven times since Messiah Yeshua’s generation on Earth. Astronomers calculate that there are four blood red moons scheduled to appear in 2014 and 2015 and there will not be any for the next 100 years.

Every time this blood red moon pattern appeared in the sky either the season of warfare in Israel has occurred or is ongoing. Other times this mean the Jewish people are involved in warfare and blood shedding. For example, blood red moons occurred during the years 1493 and 1494, which were signs of Jewish blood flowing during the Spanish inquisition in 1492. This era was when Christopher Columbus came to America with a few messianic Spanish Jews. In the years 1949 and 1950, blood red moons appeared in the nighttime sky again and giving a blood sign after Israel became a nation in 1948 and started the Arab Israel war. In the years 1967 and 1968, blood red moons appeared again as a sign of blood following the 1967 Six Day War and the recapture of Jerusalem for Israel and the long battle with terrorism and its attacks began.

Now these patterns of events clearly show that in the years before the blood red moons appearing in 2014 and 2015, there may be an Arab-Israeli conflict fulfilling the Obadiah 1:15-21 and Psalm 83 wars. In other words, there will be warfare in the Mideast that will spill Jewish and Arab blood in the years 2013, 2014, and 2015.

Finally, this may mean that there will be major events in the years 2013, 2014, and 2015 that are troublesome for Israel and the Jewish community worldwide, but also a great opportunity for Israel during this time. The historic pattern shows that when the Israeli people are forced from land or they fight wars against their enemies, the Israeli people usually find new land and gained more power and freedom. Therefore, the coming years may involve Mideast warfare along with a huge oil find for Israel and a greater expansion in Israel’s geographical size cause by Israel’s annexation of Mideast land resulting from these wars. Global anti-Semitism will force many Western European Jews to return to Israel’s newly acquired territory, while massive Arab and Muslim populations will immigrate to North America, Canada, and Europe.

The shameful, disgusted and horrible stories of human wildness

An overview on the world’s notable “Cannibalism” events

Among all the black spots on the forehead of the human history, the most hateful is “Cannibalism”. The people who are involved in this act are called “Cannibals”

Historical Proofs

The links of Cannibalism relates to 30-50 millions years back. It was the period when life was lost in the darkness of ignorance. The only purpose of man was finding resources for his own survival. Therefore, in ancient times it was common making other human as a part of their food in order to keep them alive.

In this regard, the famous American researcher and human nature expert “Tim Watt” says that the discovered bones of the human’s early evolutionary shape “Neoandertha”, most of these bones have marks of peeling flesh.

Besides, the way these bones are separated in a well-mannered way, it appears as if some expert butcher would have separated flesh from them and then eaten after cooking or in a raw shape. Tim Watt determines the eating of human flesh as the problem of food scarcity.

It is clarified that these bones relates to Stone Age or “Paleolithic Age”, when human had learned making tools from stones. Likewise, the caves of Somerset in the South Western area of England, that are called “Gough”, human bones and skulls found in these caves are around 15 thousands years ago. The marks present on these bones clearly indicate that flesh had been taken off from the bones. Proofs are also found that the skulls found from here were also used for drinking soups.

Besides, written proofs about the real inhabitants “Aboriginal” of Australia and the “Maori” tribes of New Zealand are found that the people of these tribes were also cannibals in the past. Experts opine that in many ancient tribes “Cannibalism” was one of the shapes of cultural, religious and social activities that are still performed by few tribes on special events.

These tribes are found in Southern and Northern America, Western of Central Africa, and Eastern Islands of Pacific Ocean, Solomon Islands, Caribbean Islands, Papua New Guinea, Sumatra and Fiji etc. Another same kind of tribe “Aghor” is found in India that eats the half burnt floating human flesh pieces, thrown in River Ganges after burning the dead bodies in their religious rituals.

Besides above, Aztec, Mexican and Brazilian tribes were also remained involved in eating human flesh. In Sierra Leone, Liberia and Ivory Coast, the countries of Western Africa, the members of “Leopard Society” attired in the Leopard skin are also active in Cannibalism.

The archeologists of Bristol University proved in 2001 in a research that around 2 thousands years ago in Gloucestershire, Britain, human flesh was eaten. Similarly in 1891 such bones and other proofs are found from the caves in Honne, Germany, the marks on which indicate that the human flesh was the favorite food of the people resided there.

Emily Carthaus and Dr. Bruno Bernhard, the leaders and archeologists of this research say that the relics found from these caves are of about three thousands years ago. However, all the experts are agreed on the point that the basic reason of this hateful act was the food scarcity or compulsion for keeping themselves alive.

In war passion periods, examples of eating human flesh as revenge are also present. For e.g. in the period of Tang Dynasty, human flesh was eaten as a food. This dynasty remained established from sixth century till ninth century. During this dynasty eating of enemy’s meat in the wars was considered an honor.

Similarly during first Crucify war that lasted from 1096 till 1099, the Crucify military men did the Muslims massacre during the siege of city “Mauratu al Nauman”. The flesh from the Muslim’s dead Soldiers’ bodies was also scratched and eaten. In the present era, this small town is situated in the Western part of Syria.

Christian historians Fulcher and Ralph of Caen, writers of the first Crucify wars certified in their daily publications that the Crucify militants tore flesh from the Muslim’s militants’ bodies, cooked it and fulfilled their appetite.

In the modern age, the example of this hateful act is found during 2nd world war, when prisoners were compelled eating flesh of their dead companions. Besides in this war during the siege of cities, proofs of eating human flesh are found in order to keep them alive.

Eating of human flesh or Cannibalism is also proved historically during famine periods. Clear proofs of Cannibalism are apparent, when the flow of river Nile descended and famine took place in Egypt from 1063 B.C. to 1073 B.C. Similarly thousands of people were compelled eating human flesh for their survival, in the Europe’s famine during 1315 – 1317. In American State Virginia, the incidents of eating human flesh are found during famine of 1609 – 1610.

In China people were compelled eating human fleshes in the severe famine that took place during 1958 – 1961, whereas in South Korea, the same kind of incidents took place during famine of 1995-1997

World’s notorious Cannibals

If we put a comprehensive eye on the world’s notorious Cannibals’ activities of the recent past, we come to know about some horrible following facts:

Albert Fish

Albert Fish was born on 19th May 1870 in Washington in a family who had the long history of mental illnesses. Big part of his life was passed in an orphanage, after the death of father where he was brought up in an aggravated environment and therefore Albert adopted the way of violence after departing from the orphanage. During this time he murdered four innocent children and continued scratching and eating their flesh.

According to the opinion of doctors, Albert Fish was the psychologically ill person whose torturous childhood became the reason of his disaster. It should be noted that all the four victims of Albert were children. His nickname was “Boggy Man” and this disgusted person admitted his sins after getting caught red handed. Therefore, on 16th Jan 1936 court declared him death sentence and handed him over to an electrical chair.

Andrei Chikatilo

Andrei Chikatilo was born in 1936 in Ukraine, the area of Ex-Soviet Union. He is considered among the worst serial killers of the human history. This wild natured person killed more than 53 people during 1976 – 1990. All the killed people were women and children.

Andrei was born in the famine period of Joseph Stalin. It is said that during famine his dead brother’s flesh was eaten by the hunger compelled woman. This incident developed negative thinking of taking revenge in his mind. He continued implementing his negative thoughts by killing people off and on.

On the other hand during 1957 – 1960 not only Andrei completed his military training but also completed graduation and continued serving as a teacher. However, in 1976, negative attitudes influenced on his personality and the series of killing started from his hands. On 14th April 1992 when Andrei Chikatilo was presented in the court, he was imprisoned in the cage, because it was feared that the relatives of the killed people might not attach him.

Andrei was announced death sentence by the gun bullet and put to death on 14th April 1994. Andrei Chikatilo killed 32 women and 21 children (boys and girls). Before death Andrei Chikatilo admitted that he scratched and ate flesh from almost all the killed people’s bodies and quenched his thirst.

Jeffrey Dahmer

Jeffrey Dahmer is considered among Serial killers. Jeffrey admitted during investigation that he drank the blood and also ate flesh of the people killed by him. He belonged to the American State Ohio. He killed 15 people during 1978-1991. He kept their body parts and flesh in his apartment and performed different experiments on them.

Jeffrey thought that in this way he would remain alive after death. Jeffrey was arrested on 22nd July 1991 by the time when one of his victims escaped the same time when Jeffrey was preparing to kill him with a big knife. Getting this information police raided the Jeffrey’s Apartment where they found human skulls and other human body parts sunk in different chemicals.

It should be cleared that Jeffrey was killed by another prisoner in the prison on a dispute between them. He was 34 then and his brain was safeguarded after death, which is still the focus of the research and psychology department and medical related experts.

John Bunting Group

John Bunting Group belonged to South Australia. John Bunting and other 3 members Robert Wagner, Mark Haydon and James Vlassakis of this group killed 11 people during 1992-1999. These four main members of this group used to aggravate the people caught in their net and after killing them, cook and eat their flesh, whereas the remaining parts of their bodies were safeguarded in a drum.

The killed people ages were between 18-42 years who became victims of this group around a snow town area that is 145 km far from the Adelaide city. All the four killers and their helpers were relatives and friends among each other including women.

After getting caught in a killing incident, this group was put to trial in a court. In the mid of hearing, all the three members of the jury who were proceeding the case, requested the Supreme Court and left their jobs due to the hateful and painful nature of the case. In this respect, the resigned jury members afterwards said that their hearts and minds didn’t find enough courage listening, the horrible details of these inhuman acts.

They further said that they could not believe any human group could do such cruel and horrible acts of killing, tearing and eating the dead bodies of unguarded people. Therefore, another jury was chosen for the court proceedings, which after some time declared life sentence punishment to John Bunting and his other cruel companions.

Peter Bryan

Peter Bryan of Britain is now passing life imprisonment in jail. Suffered from mental illness Peter Bryan killed four people from 1993-2004, among which two he killed after getting discharge from the hospital and acquiring the mental health certificate.

In both of these incidents he very cruelly tore the flesh of killed people and then cooked and ate. Media and people from other fields reacted badly for wrong diagnosis of Peter Bryan’s mental conditions in which they expressed their concerns on the importance and usefulness of the Britain National Health Service Program run on the public taxes.

Dorangel Vargas

Dorangel Vargas belonged to Venezuela in South America. At the age of 54 when he was caught in February 1999, by that time he had already killed ten people. This keen flesh eater of the killed people had no regret at all on his doings.

On top of that, according to Police, he was desirous that human flesh should be provided to him as a meal during imprisonment. During investigation Dorangel Vargas admitted that he sold the bones of the killed people to different people including police officials. It is also thought about Dorangel Vargas who is imprisoned in the jail of Venezuela and he had also been related to the international human body parts seller group.

Orgur Dengiz

Orgur Dengiz was arrested from Ankara, the city of Turkey who killed many people. On 12th September 2007 he fired the 55 years old sanitary worker named Cafer Er and ate his flesh after killing. He admitted his hateful act in front of the court. After arrest, he pointed out pieces of human flesh in his home’s refrigerator. These pieces were taken off from the body of the killed people and saved in polythene bags. Mentally sick Orgur Dengiz is now in Ankara jail.

Mauerova Family

On 20th June 2008, all the Democratic Czech was disturbed on the news that two sisters of “Borno” city, who were the followers of disputed and doubted religious beliefs, they in order to please their self-made “god” kept their own two children, 8 years Andray and 10 years Jacob in a cage for 8 months, handcuffed them, peeled their skin off from their bodies and not only eaten their flesh themselves but also served to their religions companions.

Besides above, they also compelled both the children eating their own flesh. However due to an accident both the sisters could not succeeded in their plan completely. According to the witnesses, neighbors have installed cameras outside their houses for supervising their children, those cameras, by chance captured the scenes of pestering on the children of Mauerova family.

Soon after seeing these heart breaking scenes, the neigh borers informed the police. The police raided, recovered the children in a half-dead condition and this devil natured mother Klara Mauerova and Aunt Katerina Mauerova were arrested along with six other people, who are in jail now.

During investigation, both the sisters showed their relation with a religious movement “Grail Movement”. Regarding this movement, both the sisters said that in Europe, Britain and all over the world, thousands of disciples of this “Grail Movement” are present.

However, after this declaration by the two sisters, the higher authorities of “Grail Movement” had clarified on their website that they have expelled all these people from their sect and the imprisonment and eating of flesh of the two children was their personal act. It should be noted that this is the only example of women eating human flesh in the modern age.

After thorough scrutinizing of all the above mentioned details it was known that there were some negative values, similar in all these wildish natured people for e.g. their parents used to quarrel in front of all these criminals, due to which they all not only remained deprive of their parent’s love but their childhood also passed in great insecurity.

Besides, these people were also victimized of educational backwardness, mental disorders, sexually off track, intoxication and passion like psychological and social issues. At last these problems made them demons who had no control over their thoughts and attitudes.

Cyber Cannibal Armin Meiwes

“Computer Technician” Armin Meiwes belonged to a German Area “Asan”. Armin Meiwes, who has strange and weird ideas about life, given advertisement on his website “The Cannibal Café”, the text of this advertisement was “He is in search of such 18-30 years of age healthy person who can offer himself voluntarily for killing so that he could eat his flesh.

In response of this advertisement surprisingly many people presented themselves for murder. However, they surrendered afterwards. Only one person “Bernd Jurgen Brandes” remained stick on his offer and presented him for killing.

On 9th March 2001, Berand Brandes reached Armin Meiwes’s home. After his arrival, Armin Meiwes continued cutting and gathering pieces of his body for two hours. During all this activity not only Brandes remained alive but both of them made video of all this inhuman activity also.

Afterwards, this video became the main cause of Armin’s arrest. Hence, when Brandes died due to excess bleeding, Armin made additional pieces of his body and saved them in the refrigerator. Armin Meiwes continued eating the stored flesh after cooking it till his arrest.

After this incident Armin Meiwes once again given the same sort of advertisement on his website and also published the details of his prior crime. When the details passed through the eyes of a student, he immediately informed the Police. Police raided the house of Meiwes and acquired the human flesh and video tape. Armin Meiwes is nowadays facing a life imprisonment in Frankfort.

According to Armin Meiwes, presently there are about 800 people in Germany who eat human flesh or are desirable of eating.

War and Cannibalism in the modern age

Sierra Leone is situated on the Western shore side of the continent Africa. The history of war fought on this land between two rebel groups in 1990 is full of blood shed and violation. This war was fought for taking control on Diamond Mines.

In this war the “Revolutionary United Front” and its alliance “National Patriot Front” had openly demonstrated cutting and eating flesh of the enemy tribes’ militants’ bodies. In affirmation of their acts they were of the opinion that this way they transfer strength from their enemy’s bodies into theirs.

Similarly, in the period of Ex-Dictator Charles Tailor of Liberia, Western Africa, the chief of the military was Joseph Mirza who in 2008, admitted during an investigation that he and his companions not only ate flesh of their opponents during war but also treated “Peace Military” and UNO representatives the same way. Besides, the incidents of eating flesh came forward during the “Congo War” fought during August 1998 till July 2003.

According to BBC the ex-president and dictator “Idi Amin” of Uganda was also involved in eating the flesh of his opponents.

This year is the 115th death anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal, Filipino national martyr-hero who died by firing squad on December 30,1896.

A day before his execution at 6:00 a.m. December 29, 1896 Dr. Jose Rizal’s death sentence was read to him: “…. the death penalty is imposed on the accused JOSE RIZAL MERCADO… by shooting him at the back at 7:00 a.m. on the 30th of December 1896…” (It is interesting to know that 13 years before his execution in 1883, his diary shows that he dreamed he died on December 30.)

Rizal was immediately transferred to a chapel cell to wait for his last moment. Among those who visited him were his Jesuit professors at the Ateneo de Manila where he attended high school and earned the degree of Bachiller en Artes. There was no representative from the University of Santo Tomas where he pursued Medicine and Philosophy.

Standouts among those who viewed him on his last hour were his lawyer; his bodyguard; Fr. Federico Faura who had predicted that his novel the Noli Me Tangere would cost him his life; Fr. Vicente Balaguer who was known to have married him and Josephine Bracken and who convinced him to retract his “anti-Catholic” ideas found in his novels; Donya Teodora his mother; Trinidad his sister to whom he gave the alcohol cooking stove which contained his last poem of farewell; Josephine Bracken his “wife”.

About 6:30 a.m. of December 30, 1896 a trumpet heralded the start of Dr. Jose Rizal’s death march to Bagumbayan (now the Luneta or Rizal Park), a mound facing the sea. At a distance lay the island of Corregidor and the hills of Bataan. Four soldiers with bayoneted rifles formed the advance guard. A few meters behind them Rizal marched calmly in black suit, black derby hat, black shoes, white shirt, and black tie. His arms were tied from elbow to elbow, but the rope was loose enough to make him move. To the muffled sounds of the drums the cavalcade marched serenely. A few curious spectators lined the street from Fort Santiago to Plaza del Palacio of the Manila Cathedral.

Rizal and the cavalcade arrived at Bagumbayan at exactly 7:00 a.m. He faced the firing squad ready to be shot facing the enemy. He asked Captain Dominguez that he be shot through his heart but the request was denied because the death sentence specified that he be shot at the back. Rizal reluctantly turned his back facing the sea. Dr. Felipe Ruiz Castillo felt his pulse and was surprised to find that it was normal— meaning, he was not afraid to die. One friar came forward to let him kiss the Crucifix. Without a word he turned his face away. (Was this the action of a man who retracted his “anti-Catholic religious errors”?)

Captain Dominguez raised his sword and ordered the executioners: “Ready, aim, fire!” Riddled with bullets Rizal whirled and fell on his back, looking up at the sky. He died at exactly 7:03 a.m. on December 30, 1896. He was 35 years, 5 months, and 11 days old.

In his prophetic vision (like his dream which foretold the exact date of his execution, December 30) he had seen himself die (as described in the third stanza of his celebrated “Mi Ultimo Adios”, his last farewell poem) wherein he imagines his blood dyeing with crimson the newborn day.

I die just when I see the dawn break,
Through the gloom of night, to herald the day;
And if color is lacking, my blood thou shalt take,
Pour’d out at need for thy dear sake,
To dye with its crimson the waking ray.

In previous executions at Bagumbayan, it was normal for spectators to be noisy after the execution. But when Rizal fell Capt. Rafael Dominguez who supervised his execution ordered the crowd and his men to be silent. The silence was a recognition of “the brave recognizing the brave.”

Rizal’s remains were first buried at Paco Cemetery which, since early times had been a graveyard for early prelates and governors-general as well as victims of cholera that plagued Manila in 1820. Sixteen years later on December 30, 1912 his remains were exhumed and placed in a glass crypt at the base of Rizal’s present monument and tomb at the Luneta or Rizal Park (previously Bagumbayan where he had been shot by firing squad). The cemetery became a national shrine during the American Occupation.

Everything has a meaning in this morbid image of the year I’ve had. From the overwhelming amount of blood to the “A” on the blank page pinned to the wall. I spent four hours editing this rather large of an abomination that is this picture, often using a paintbrush the size of a single pixel. You can tell from a single glance that this picture is somewhat angry and perhaps not to the taste of many, but, it is the first published expression of my anger (that hasn’t been put in a bin)- I think I’m entitled, better than me showing the anger in a more violent way, no?

Not knowing anything about me, you will probably have your own thoughts and ideas to deduce from this… What does each thing mean to you? What do you think it might mean to me?

They just aren't scary anymore.

I pretty sure I remember a short period of time when vampires were actually scary, this of course was before Buffy, Twilight ect. Television and movies have turned them into a joke.

Well I am in the middle of writing a series that is going to change all that, vampires will be feared, not someone you fall in love with. These stories will be full of blood, gore and violence. Certainly not suitable for someone over the age of 18. I am definitely not looking to give Twi-hards a new vampire fix until the next movie comes out.

I will show people that having a vampire desire you is anything but romantic.

A preview of my new series will be posted soon, let me know what you think.

We have a fascination with these creatures, but are there in reality vampires and if so what are they? And were do they come from?

Hey folks let’s discuss vampires for a moment shall we?The vampire myths and legends are a fascinating sub culture the world over, but what fuels these tales?Every culture in the world seems to have some form of vampire myth, and lore.In these weird tales the vampire is sometimes a huge bat, sometimes a beautiful woman, sometimes, as in the case of Count Dracula, a man with a mania for sucking human life-blood. Dracula is the classic type of fictional human vampireTales of the dead craving blood are ancient. In Homer’s Odyssey, for example, the shades that Odysseus meets on his journey to the underworld are lured to the blood of freshly sacrificed rams, a fact which Odysseus uses to his advantage to summon the shade of Tiresias.

Some Slavic peoples believed in vampires as early as the 4th century. In their mythology, a vampire drank blood, was afraid of (but could not be killed by) silver, and could be destroyed by cutting off its head and putting it between the corpse’s legs, or by putting a wooden stake into its heart.

Medieval historians and chroniclers Walter Map and William of Newburgh recorded the earliest stories of English vampiric activity in the 12th century.

In popular western culture, vampires are depicted as unaging, intelligent, and mystically endowed in many ways. The vampire typically has a variety of notable abilities. These include great strength and immunity to any lasting effect of any injury by mundane means, with specific exceptions. Vampires can also change into a mist, wolf, or bat; and some can control the minds of others. They typically have extended canines or fangs.

It is believed that vampires have no reflection, as traditionally it was thought that mirrors reflected your soul and creatures of evil have no soul. Fiction has extended this belief to an actual aversion to mirrors, as depicted in Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula when the vampire casts Harker’s shaving mirror out of the window.

As it is often true about other things, most fiction is based on some fact.Yes there was a man named Dracula he was an historical figure in Romania. But with a little research we can get the true story of Vlad Tepes (A.K.A.Vlad the impaler) was born in Sighisoara 1431, Transylvania. yet he did not live there, he lived in Walachia (also known as Valahia Wallahia etc) because back then Romania was divided in 3 medieval states: Transylvania which was under Hungary’s sovereignty, Valahia and Moldova which were both under the Otoman empires administration, having puppet rulers there which still ruled yet had to pay a Tax each year, which consisted of both money and products. Vlad grew up as being a hostage in the Otoman empire to assure the sultan that Vlad’s father, current ruler of Valahia doesn’t cause any trouble.

When he went back to Valahia he succeeded his father to the throne, becoming the new ruler also called voievod in Romanian ,he had three reigns through out his life : 1448, 1456-1462,1476. Vlad’s real name was Vlad the third the nickname “the impaler” was given to him because of the cruel methods he used to punish those who crossed the law or of enemy prisoners, namely of impaling them on wooden pikes piercing trough their bodies without touching vital organs so they would still be alive afterwards.

The disputes with the Otoman empire started when Vlad refused to pay the tribute to the sultan and killed his ambassadors by nailing their hats to their heads for refusing to take them off in his presence. This enraged Mehmed the second, so he sent an army estimated to be between 90,000 and 120,000 soldiers to kill Vlad and restore his authority for good in Valahia. Vlad led against him many small guerrilla wars trying to weaken him and when the Turks ( Otomans) camped at Calugareni he ambushed them in the night with a force 3 times smaller then the sultan’s.

The Otomans were surrounded, He succeeded in creating terror and chaos amongst the Turkish troops by commanding his army to create as much noise as possible by yelling and screaming to trick the Turks into believing the illusion that they were vastly outnumbered. As the Turks tried to retreat they were slaughtered instead of fighting a fight they could have won. Between 1462 and 1474 he was imprisoned in Hungary. There he drank rat blood and fed on them to stay alive. He gained the monarchs favor and married one of his relatives, returning to Valahia in 1476 for his last reign that didn’t last too long as he died defending Bucharest in December his body was decapitated and his head was sent to Istanbul were the sultan kept it preserved in honey as a proof of his dominance and victory.
so we know now that Vlad wasn’t a vampire just a man with incredible battle stategy, and luck.(not to mention on occassion, opponents that weren’t that bright)but as always luck does run out.

But enough with the history lesson ,here is the low down on the vampires straight from the vampires mouth (so to speak)This is an interview from a South African house member.

Often Vampyres face questions from the curious outsiders who look at our community and wonder “what went wrong”, without considering the possibility that that answer just might be “nothing”. The awakened Vampyre is a being who has come to terms with their condition, and accepted it, and who knows this is the way they are supposed to be. For better or worse, everything in life has a purpose, even us. What that purpose is, of course, is open to debate by philosophers and theologians alike, and what the answer to that question is, will likely remain a mystery. Not so, the more ordinary basic questions, which often show up on message boards, or in a Vampyre’s inbox – or sometimes in a list of questions from a journalist curious to learn more about us. I have included some of the more common ones in this article, and taken the liberty of answering them myself.

1. The first thing many people will ask, is whether vampirism is genuine or whether it is just role playing. “Do you guys genuinely drink blood or do you just adopt online personas and roleplay?”

I am sure there are people for whom being a Vampyre is just role-playing and life-styling, but the community I am part of does not consider themselves role players, but real self-identified Vampyres. For some that comes as a result of a genuine need they experience, which can only be filled by the taking in of pranic energy either directly from a source, or by means of ingesting blood. Anonymity is very important to us, and that is why we adopt online personas in order to maintain our privacy while socializing and networking with each other on the internet and also in real life.

2. “How large is the local community and where is it centered? “

The local community is still developing. Up until recently most Vampyres were solitary practitioners, many of them unaware that there were others out there like themselves. Many have been genuinely surprised to find that there is a community of people with needs just like them. The most active center of the community in SA is currently Johannesburg, with a second largest portion in Cape Town. Currently we know of 5 groups, which we call Houses, across South Africa – all are members of the SAVA (South African Vampyre Alliance), which is an umbrella body working to formalize our local community and to facilitate our growth and networking.

3. “How many of you guys actually consume human blood? I see that many of you consume animal blood? Do both count as vampirism?”

Most sanguine Vampyres (or sangs) will consume human blood if they have the choice, that is, if they are lucky enough to find a donor willing to help them. Many who do, keep it within the structure of a relationship such as a long time romantic relationship, but it isn’t unusual for Vampyres and donors to maintain friendships or relations purely centered on communion.

Individuals who donate to Vampyres do so entirely of their own free will, and are protected within the relationship by the Donor Bill of Rights, which ensures fair play and decent treatment of the donor by the Vampyre. It also defines boundaries of what can or cannot be done within the context of communion, and also what medical tests should be completed by both parties to ensure the medical safety of both parties.

Animal blood is considered a last resort by some, but a few prefer it because it lessens the risks of discovery, and also it spares them the drama that accompanies procuring a donor. Finding a donor is not easy. Beef blood will serve quite well if it is fresh enough, and it tastes better than some other kinds of blood, such as lamb for example. One vamp in particular with whom I am acquainted, is very squeamish about blood, and is actually a vegetarian – but needs the blood.

4. “Why the secrecy? Have you got any idea of how people would react if they found out you were vampires?”

As a community we have found that most people do not react well to relatives and friends coming out about their vampirism. It can affect social status, jobs, child custody, and other issues pertaining to discrimination against Vampyres. There are numerous example in the USA, and we do not wish to endure the same problems here. Our biggest obstacle in this regard is prejudice.

Most people appear to be willing to listen, and often are quite accepting when we do discuss these issues from a community viewpoint anonymously, but when we give up that anonymity, we take a serious personal risk. Frequently we will encounter hostility, most typically from a religious side. We are often labeled “satanists” or “devil worshipers”, but what these people don’t understand is that what we do is not religious. We do it out of a need we experience, whatever the reason, whatever the cause. I personally know Vampyres who belong to different faiths, including Christians, Catholics, Hindus, pagans, Jews and the odd atheist as well. We’re also spread across various income groups, from lower income to higher, and among us we have lawyers, auto-mechanics, nurses and waitresses. For us it’s not about what god we believe in, but what stills the hunger inside us and helps us to feel normal again.

Since earlier this year we have been making ourselves more known to general society in SA, and so far the results have been encouraging. Some social groups have been more accepting than others.

5. “What makes a person a vampire? Is there a physical reason for the bloodlust or is it an acquired taste? Could you turn someone into a vampire?”

Currently there are many theories in the international Vampyre Community, but at this point very little medical or scientific study has been done into the subject. An American research foundation called Suscitatio has commissioned several studies on the topic since 2006, which are frequently cited by researchers and journalists alike. Most Vampyres will tell you that they became aware of their needs around puberty, a process we call Awakening. Some of us will gravitate towards feeding directly off energy from various sources (animal, plant, elemental etc) – we call them “Psychic Vampires” or ‘psi vamps’, while others will only be satisfied with blood (sangs). Then there is a third grouping which we call “hybrids”, who employ both methods.

Quite honestly, there are so many diverse beliefs about our origins and the reasons we are this way, that I couldn’t even begin to go into them here. Many have tried to not feed, and have suffered serious consequences to their physical and/or mental stability or health, and so for most of us feeding is considered necessary to maintain our health and well-being.

Some people ask us if we could “turn” them into one of us – but honestly, I don’t think they realize what they are asking for. It’s not the stuff they see on Vampire Diaries. It’s not pleasant, and you don’t get any superpowers – but you do have a thirst that nothing else can satisfy. In any case, it’s just not possible to “turn” anyone. We’re born with this need. If you don’t have it, you’re not a vamp – and you should be glad.

We believe we are born vampiric, and awaken to our nature later in life. Puberty is generally believed to be the trigger of Awakening, but it is believed by some that it could also be some form of trauma or near death experience etc which may be responsible for triggering Awakening in later life.

I have never encountered a Vampyre who claimed to have been “turned”. It is generally frowned upon in the VC to suggest or to contend that “turning” is possible, mostly because it is an inconvenient stereotype, but also because of the deluge of Twilight aficionados that would descend upon us begging for it, as well as the feeling that it “cheapens” or degrades what we feel is a natural state of being, and for many, a plight and an inconvenience.

There are some groups – cults mostly, which prey on the gullible for money and power, that claim to be able to “turn” people into vampires – for a fee, naturally. In some cases, this “treatment” involves dangerous practices which may even be life-threatening, and ultimately, void. My advice is to steer clear of those groups – they are counting on people’s desperation in order to enrich themselves, while not being able to deliver anything concrete to support their claims.

6. “How long have you been a vampire and how often do you consume blood?”

I have been awakened since age 15, I am currently late 30′s. I consume about a table-spoon full every 2 weeks, depending on how much energy I use, in which case I would need more frequent feedings. I have had several voluntary donors over time, but frequently have to rely on beef blood during the “dry spells”.

And so there you have it, the most frequently asked questions we seem to get in what has whimsically become known as “interviews with the vampire”… I hope they answer YOUR questions as well.

Let’s look into the natural phenomena that propagate the vampire myth
Pathology and vampirism

Some people argue that vampire stories might have been influenced by a rare illness called porphyria. The disease disrupts the production of heme. People with extreme cases of this hereditary disease can be so sensitive to sunlight that they can get a sunburn through heavy cloud cover, causing them to be nocturnal and avoid all light. People with porphyria can also have red eyes and teeth, resulting from buildup of red heme intermediates (porphyrins). Certain forms of porphyria are also associated with neurological symptoms, which can create psychiatric disorders. However, the hypotheses that porphyria sufferers “crave” the heme in human blood, or that the consumption of blood might ease the symptoms of porphyria, are based in ignorance.

Others argue that there is a relationship between vampirism and rabies. The legend of vampirism is known to have existed in the 19th century Eastern Europe, where there were massive rabies outbreaks. Rabies causes high fever, loss of appetite, and fatigue as initial symptoms. In later stages, patients try to avoid the sunlight and prefer walking at night. Strong light and mirrors can cause episodes characterized by violent and animal-like behaviors and a tendency to attack people and bite them. Concomitant facial spasms might give the patient an animal-like (or a vampire-like) expression. In a furious form of the disease, patients might have an increased urgency for sexual activity or occasionally vomit blood. Rabies is contagious.

Finding vampires in graves

When the coffin of an alleged vampire was opened, people sometimes found the cadaver in a “healthy state” and beautiful, meaning that the corpse was a well-fed vampire. Folkloric accounts almost universally represent the vampire as having ruddy or dark skin, not the pale skin of vampires in literature and film. Reasons for this appearance include:

In the past, people were often malnourished and therefore thin in life. Corpses swell as gases from decomposition accumulate in the torso. The implication was that the corpse was not famished and, because blood was sometimes found in the corners of the mouth, it was assumed that the “vampire” had been drinking blood.
Natural processes of decomposition, absent embalming, tend to darken the skin of a corpse–hence the black, blue, or red complexion of the folkloric vampire.

What is the world veiw on vampiric sub-culture?Modern day vampire covens can be divided into those that are role playing and those that are formed by vampires that consider themselves entirely authentic.
The vampire subculture attracts those looking for an alternative lifestyle. Role playing vampires are either sanguinarian or psychic. This essentially means that they are either blood drinkers or they draw nourishment from auric or pranic energy. There is often a Gothic or Victorian accent to coven aesthetics and activities, but not all covens follow this lifestyle.
The vampire subculture owes much to Western culture, particularly the symbolism of horror films and the fiction of writers such as Anne Rice. Additionally, high profile cases such as the Highgate Vampire have done much to cement the connection between Victorian gothic horror and vampire culture.
As with all subcultures, aesthetics do much to define the belief systems employed. The style of dress combines elements of the Victoriana, punk and gothic fashion drawing inspiration from films and novelsThe vampirists that believe themselves to be authentic supernatural entities claim their physical and psychological characteristics and any number of self-professed psychic abilities are evidence of vampirism rather than independent or imagined traits. To those outside the subculture, this belief is often indicitive of an identity disorder, antisocial personality disorder or the inability to accept the fact that they don’t naturally display anything other than normal human traits.

Most practitioners of vampirism don’t believe that they are undead creatures, they use their vampirism as a channel for their creativity and in order to practise magic. Psychic or Psionic Vampires claim they take life force energy, prana or qi, from donors to increase their own energy and vitality. Feeding takes the form of meditation, reaching out with a vampiric aura and literally sapping the donor’s energy through contract with their chakras.
Vampires that do take their sustainance from human blood, sanguinarians, claim they have an innate need for blood of other living beings. They draw blood using a sharp blade or needle from a donor that they enjoy a close feeding realtionship with and they will drink directly from the cut that they make. Safe bloodletting practices are in place througout vampire communities to ensure the health and safety of the donor. Though animal blood is sometimes used, some feel it isn’t an adequate alternative. In terms of quantity, just one or two tablespoons of blood is normally ingested. Many sanguinarians refrain from dressing in way that indicates that they are involved in vampiric subculture and believe that this adds to the authenticity of their claims, differentiating them from role players. Sanguinarains also believe that they occupy a higher position in the food chainfood and though many will abstain from specific foods including dairy, none avoid eating entirely. Many do claim that they often become ill when eating conventional foodstuffs.
